“Why didn’t I just call him, Jess? He deserves to know his own son!” Lauren muttered. She quickly told Jessica about her conversation with Nick. “I don’t know. I just feel so helpless!”
“Oh my God, you still love him,” Jessica stated when she realized what was going on.
Lauren sighed. “Of course I do! All my feelings for him resurfaced when I saw him this afternoon. They’d been buried so long, and I thought they were gone. How’d they come back?”
“If you still love him, give him another chance. He loves you, too, Lauren,” Jessica said.
Lauren laughed bitterly. “Oh, sis, if only it were that simple. It’s not fair! Just when I finally learn to live without him, he finds me and screws everything up. It was so difficult for me to get over him. I can’t just forgive him, just like that.”
“Well, unless you want to be miserable every time he comes over to spend time with Danny, I think you’re going to have to,” Jessica pointed out. “Just do it, Lauren. He deserves it, I think. He really is sorry.” She stood up and walked into the kitchen.
“Yeah, well, you didn’t have to deal with what he put me through,” Lauren muttered under her breath.
