Chapter 7

Even though Nick had to leave to go on tour after two weeks, his and Meg’s relationship remained strong. They talked almost every day on the phone for at least a half an hour, and occasionally she received a letter or a postcard from him.

The two had been dating for almost three months when Matt’s fraternity had a huge party. Since he didn’t have a girlfriend, he invited Meg to be his “date” for the evening, and she eagerly agreed. Being the rather shy person that she was, she had only been to a few college parties, and was really excited about it.

Before leaving, she looked in her full-length mirror at her reflection. For some reason, she had decided to go all out tonight and try to look really good, and she had succeeded. She had chosen to wear a spaghetti strapped, clingy light blue dress (from Liz’s closet) that came to her mid-thigh. It brought out the blue in her eyes and accentuated her slim, shaped body. Liz had pulled her hair up into a high ponytail and curled it, leaving a few tendrils down to frame her face. Her tan skin glowed, and the only makeup she had needed was a bit of sparkly eye shadow, mascara, and sparkly lip gloss. Matt stood behind her, shocked.

“Wow, impressive! I didn’t know you cleaned up this good, Maggie,” he teased.

She smacked him on the shoulder. “Gee, thanks.”

“I’m just kidding,” he whined.

“Well, come on, let’s go.”

She took his arm and they went out to his car. As they drove, she looked over at him and studied him indiscreetly. He was a good looking guy, and she always had wondered why he didn’t have a girlfriend. He was really tall and built and had brown hair and eyes, and somewhat tan skin. People often told him he looked like Josh Hartnett. There were always a million girls chasing after him. In fact, at one point, before she got to know him, Meg had been one of those girls. Then when they started working together, they became good friends. After that, she realized she was comfortable with that and she didn’t really want their relationship to change, so swallowed all her feelings for him. When they pulled up to the frat house, she snapped out her thought and turned her attention back to the present.

By the end of the evening, they were both pretty drunk. They had had their share of drinks. Suddenly, a fast song came on, and Meg got the urge to dance. “Come on, Mattie, let’s have some fun,” she ordered, pulling him off the couch they had settled on.

They started to dance, and Meg pulled him closer to her and ran her fingers through his soft hair. She rubbed her body up against his, and he buried his face in her neck, placing feather soft kisses on it. It felt way too good to ask him to stop, not that she was in any condition to realize what they were doing anyway.

“Dude, look at Meg and Matt!” one of their friends shouted. “Since when are they together?”

They were too caught up in other things to notice. Before she knew it, Matt’s lips were covering hers, and her arms were around his neck. Somehow, they ended up back on the couch, now in a semi-reclined position. His tongue dueled with hers, and his hands rested on either side of her face. Suddenly, reality set in and she realized she had a boyfriend whom she was currently cheating on. She pulled her face from Matt’s and sighed. “Omigod, what are we doing?”

“Shit, I don’t know. Do you wanna go home?” he replied.

“Yeah, I think so. I’m gonna feel like crap in the morning. I need to get some sleep,” she stated.

“Okay.”

They went out to the car in awkward silence. They drove in awkward silence. They pulled up to her apartment building in awkward silence. Finally, Meg spoke. “Can we just forget about this and pretend it didn’t happen?”

“Yeah, that sounds good. It never happened.”

“Okay, it never happened. See you later, Matt.”

“Bye, Meg.”
