~Melanie~
Epilogue
“Melanie. Melanie Parker, are you with us today?” Mrs. Henderson asked impatiently. Melanie quickly looked up, blushing
“yes ma’am, sorry” Mrs. Henderson peered at her with her eyes narrowed, then turned back to the board “safe” Melanie thought, settling back into her seat. She hadn’t been able to pay attention in class for weeks now. Not since she realized she might not have been who she thought she was. Who was she? Even more unsettling, what happened to Angela?

*~*~*~*~*

“Melanie! Honey, you need to go!” Melanie ran out of her closet, pulling her shoes on, trying to tie them as she hopped over to her bathroom.
“Coming!” she yelled, quickly brushing her blonde hair back into a perfect ponytail, and surrounding it with a matching scrunchi. Glancing at herself in the full length mirror she smiled with satisfaction, then grabbed her keys and rushed downstairs, grabbing her duffle bag off her bed as she went. “Sorry mom, do I look ok?”
“You look fine” her mom said, kissing her on the cheek, “but you better hurry!” Melanie nodded, rushing out of the kitchen, and into the garage. She smiled when she saw her car, a ‘99 Corvette Stingray, her 18th birthday present from her parents. She hopped into it and opened the garage, quickly backing out. She went as fast as she could through Riverview Park, the most luxurious neighborhood in all of Kentucky, and turned onto the main road, heading to school. After parking her car she ran to the football field to meet the other cheerleaders.
“Took you long enough” Laura said, glancing over at Melanie. Melanie bit back her remark. She never had been able to like Laura, she tried, the girls had known each other since they were children, and had always been enemies. Besides, Melanie’s mind was elsewhere, on things more important than Laura Williams. Her mind was thinking about the mail. She had come in and flipped through the mail like always, pausing to pull out a magazine for her and then proceeded to put the mail back on the table where she always did when something fell out that caught her attention. It had been one of those ‘Have You Seen Me?’ things that came in the mail about once a week. She usually ignored them, but this one caught her eye. A little girl about three years old, with blonde hair and bright eyes, wearing a pale blue dress with her hair in a ponytail on the side of her head. She looked at the name below the picture.

‘Angela Carter. Born- 11-20-83 Missing Since- 3-12-86 Hair-Blonde Eyes-Blue’
Chills ran up and down her spine. She knew the little girl. The eyes were so familiar, so haunting, so reassuring. She saw those eyes everyday.
She was the little girl.
