A Last Attempt...Chapter 3
"Whoa. It suddenly got cold in here." Nick mumbled under his breath to Brian.
"I know what you mean. That's why I said we should trade guards." Brian whispered back to Nick.
"Well even though yours' is pretty then mine, I think I'll just stick with Jake. I can still get away with some stuff with him. I don't think she'll let me do anything."
"Oh. Thank you so much. What does Kevin think he is doing? Talking to her.And he is supposed to be my cousin. Oh that's just wrong." Brian shook his head.
"Brian, what's wrong with you dude. Usually you is so friendly. Why is she so different? She do something to you that you ain't telling me bout?" Nick asked.
"No Nick. Honestly she hasn't done anything but annoy me. I don't know what is so different about her. When I bumped into her, I kinda snapped. Then she snapped back. I'm not used to that. But her smart remarks just got under my skin. And I'm not going to apologize to her." Brian said.
"Well Brian, this is my advice. Maybe you should think about it. You are going to be spending a lot of time with her wheather you like it or not. Possibly all tour. Do you really want to ba at ends with someone you'll be seeing everyday for the next few days. Wait not a few days, a few months." Brian listened to Nick.
"When did you get so wise Nick?" Brian asked.
"I don't know. It comes and goes. Just don't tell anyone. I have an image to maintain." Nick laughed with Brian.
"Don't worry. It's between me and you." Brian laughed along with Nick.
"You know Nick, I really would like it if you at least pretended to listen to me. This doesn't only have to deal with Brian, who you have so easily distracted, but you too in a way." Q scolded Nick. "And Brian. Please try to pay attention. This is your life we are talking about."
"Yes sir. I'm sooooo sorry. I won't let it happen again." Brian semi-mocked.
"I'm serious Brian. Pay attention." Q turned away and began to explain a few more preliminaries. "Well I suppose you are all ready for the Bowl. We are leaving in two vans in ten minutes. Go up to you rooms and grab whatever you are wearing, need, bought, and whatever else you are going to need. Make sure you bags are packed and bring them down with you. They will be brought over to the airport and placed on the plane. After the Bowl we are leaving for Philly. Make-up is waiting for you at the stadium. Now go." Q said.
The guys got up and scattered. About fifteen minutes later, all were a counted for with their bags. "We're going out back." Sam informed them. "Two in one van. Three in the other. Brian and Nick in van number one and Kevin, AJ, and Howie in van number two." Sam read off as they begin to run out the back door.
"Johnson..." Q called out. "Johnson..." Q repeated a little louder. "SAM."
Sam turned around. "Oh my bad. Wassup?" She stopped in front of Q. 'Samantha get a grip. You are now Johnson. Not Bosque. You were before and you are now. You need to learn it. If you don't you are going to blow your cover.' Sam thought to herself.
"Is your earpiece working correctly?"
"Oh. Yeah. Perfectly fine. You riding with Brian and me over to the stadium or are you going to head over to the airport." Sam questioned.
"My flight does not leave until 10:54 in Philly. I have to be there an hour early. I think I can go over to the staduim, stick around for the performance, fly to Philly with you all and still make it to the airport in time for my flight." Sam and Q begin to walk to the van that Nick and Brian were already in. Once there they climbed in.
"Hi. I am Jake, Nick's guard." Jake held out his hand.
Sam shook his hand and replied, "Samantha. Call me Sam though." she shook his hand then turned around.
"Um...Samantha...I mean Sam...listen bout that chick remark. Um...I'm sorry. I didn't mean it. Really I am sorry. Forgive me??" Nick asked unsure. 'Please accept this apology. You don't know how important it is for you to accept the apology I'm offering. For Brian's sake accept the apology." Nick thought to himself.
"Sure Nick. No problem." She turned around to face him. She smiled fakely. "Just don't let it happen again. K? K." She turned back around.
"See Brian. It ain't so hard. Maybe you should try someday!" Nick whispered softly to Brian, who was sitting next to him.
They arrived at the stadium on time. Sam was the first one to get out. She, of course, had to wait until Brian got out until she could go any where. Once Brian and Nick stepped out of the van, Sam got her first real dose of Backstreet Mania and what it was going to be like to guard Brian. In doing her job, she was forced to hold off a hundred teenaged, screaming fans. 'Johnny is so going to hear about this.' Fortunately though, they did all arrive in the stadium in one piece.
"Enjoyable??" Q laughed as he caught up with Sam, who was behind Brian.
"So. You don't know how complete my life is now that I have a popstar to guard and follow at his leisure." Sam rolled her eyes as she laughed. "Never in my wildest dreams did I think that when I chose my career I would be doing this. Of all the things." She laughed again.
"You chose to be a bodyguard and yet you didn't think you would be holding people back and guarding some. What an interesting concept?" Brian smiled as he turned around to address Sam.
"Well...Mr. Littrell. Seeing how you have a sudden interest in my life, I'll explain that little comment of mine to you." 'Shoot. Sam think next time you decide to open your mouth. If you don't, you are going to give yourself away. Now think...think...What to tell Brian?? Think...Think...' "What I meant was that...I...little...person that I am...you know...um...holding back screaming, teenaged girls." 'Good Sam!' "I never thought I would be guarding someone so famous. You know." Sam smiled.
"Yeah. Well here is a piece of advice for free. Get used to it. There are a lot of them and they don't ever seem to go away." Brain smiled the same smile back.
"Well Mr. Littrel." She was going to go out of her way to call him that, no matter what. "HERE is a piece of advice for you free of charge. Don't flatter yourself." She turned to look around. Look at anything but him. If she looked at him much longer she was going to say some seriously wrong things to say. Hell, she should probably say them. Maybe she just might get fired. Then she could go back to Washington and return to her daily life. Cases she like. People she knew. People she loved. Here all she had was a case she really didn't want to solve and a smartass atittude. She wasn't sure how much more she could or would take of it.
"I don't need..." Brian's phone began to ring.
Sam turned back to face Brian. "You better get that. It might be one of your teenaged fans that I have to protect you from. If you feel you are being violated in anyway just call and I'll hang up the phone for you." Sam remarked. Sam turned back around to face Q. "And once again I ask you, Why HIM???"
"Well suck it up or get reassigned." Q advised.
"You know that really isn't a bad idea." She took out her NokiaŽ cell, keeping her eyes on Brian in front of her, and dailed an oh so familiar number. When Brian walked in to a dressing room she stayed outside. She was determined to get back to DC and out of here if it killed her. Finally after the fifth ring someone picked up.
"Johnny Meadow's. Talk to me. Tell me your problem." He answered out of breath.
"You sound like a physic. But here's my problem. How dare you!! Putting me on an assignment like this. Do you think this is funny. What did I do to deserve such punishment. You are seriously deranged for doing this to me. No one deservves this kind of punishment. NO one. When I took this job no where did it say I had to guard a freakin snotty ass popstar and hold back his teenybopping fans. I want a reassignment and I want it NOW." Sam demanded.
"Samantha, calm down. I will put in your request. But you know as well as I do that it could take a week or it could take a month. Till then, Suck it up and do your job." Johnny replied sternly.
"Johnaton, you better hurry up!!" She clicked her phone off. She walked into the dressing room to see if she was needed. She walked right back out too. 'Damn, why am I stuck with guys?' she cursed to herself. Her time was cut short though when her cell began to ring. she answered it quickly. "Johnny, this be you and my miracle."
"So. I'm not Johnny but will I do? If your not busy and you can talk. Cause I know on that one for the first six months of our relationship, I couldn't call you."
"Jace...Babe. Right now I am free. I am guarding a door. sounds like fun, huh?" Sam's mood lighten a good deal at the sound of his voice. Jason always had that affect though. She truely believed she loved him with all her heart and nothing would ever come between them. Sam would fight for Jason if the occasion called for it.
"See. You can guard my door. You left so early though. You didn't even give me a chance to say goodbye. I didn't even wake up until an hour ago. I was so worn out. I think you did it last night." Jason said.
"Sorry bout that babe. But you gotta admit. It was hella fun." Sam smiled at the memory.
"Tell me about it. Wait you don't even have too. I remember it very well." Jason smiled. "Anyways, how's Tempa?"
"Bad. This has to be the worst assignment I have ever gotten. Not only am I sent away from home but I was assigned to a freaking jerk that i just might kill myself." Sam replied.
"Well I can take that as a good sign. I don't have to worry about you following for him. Now do I?" Jace tried to lighten the situtation. On the whole though, he was secretly worried about that. as much as he tried to convince himself that Sam loved him with all and everything of her heart, he still worried. When she came back from being gone for six months, she was withdrawn and pushed away from him. It took him a while, but he did get her to open back up. And even though she never told him what happened during that six months, he was sure he didn't want it to happen again. Jason was sure that if it happened again, he wouldn't be able to get her back.
"No worrys bout that one, Jace." Sam laughed. She knew she wouldn't be falling for Brian anytime soon. She heard the door knob rattle to the dressing room. "Listen baby. I gotta go. I love you babe. Later."
"I love you too...Wait..When can I call back?" Jace asked quickly.
"Um...midnight...tonight" She clicked the phone off.
"Any luck?" Q asked as he walked out of the room.
"Maybe. Maybe not. I could possibly be out of here in a week or in a month. Depending on how long it takes for the form to be filed and processed and then I have to wait until they contact me and hear the reason. easy. Personal conflict of interest. Then I have for a replacement. But I'll be praying." Sam explained. No one would know exactly how hard she would be praying. She'd already started praying.
"Well Ms. Johnson, it's good to have you till then. Um...there is some fan mail that was collected from around the stadium. Brian usually goes through it after we do. We already went through it once and now it is your turn. The guys personnal guards always go through it before the guys get it. Nothing was found in Brian's though." Q explained.
"That's cool." Sam walked with Q to an empty room. "Wow. I can't believe Brian looks at his own fan mail. That's a shock. That must take a lot outta the popstar." She began to dig through a bag labeled for Brian. Q walked out the room after a message in the earpiece came through. One thing did caught her eye though. It was a blue teddy. The only reason it really caught her eye was because blue was Raduh's favorite color. The bear was heavier then the rest and had a piece a paper sown to it. The closer she examined the bear, the more she noticed. The paper had the words "pull hear!" on them. 'As if.' she thought.
She grabbed a knife from out of her boot and opened the stitches. Inside she found a small tape recorder and a grenade attached to a pull string by the pin. She carefully detached the string and set the grenade aside, careful not to leave her prints on it. She pressed play on the recorder.
"Talk and you die. But seeing how you are listening to this, you must have another player in the game. That's alright. Just remember no police or you AND your friends die." The tape went blank.
Samantha carefully placed the items in a plastic bag. Walking out int the hallway, she found Q walking by. "Q. Um...I found something. Can you have these sent down to a lab and checked for fingerprints, DNA, where they were bought? Anything like that?!"
"Sure. I can do that. Is there something you should tell me?" Q questioned as he took the items from Sam.
"No. You can see what there is. Just careful about leaving prints." Q walked away carrying the plastic bag. 'If Raduh wants to play this as a game, I will. But he better know. I will win. I never give or lose. Besides I have an advantage. I know how his mind works.' Sam thought. She wasn't on a case anymore. She was on a mission.
