JC let out a stuttering groan, his hands gripping into his pillow. He rolled over, his tired eyes finding the bright red of his alarm clock. 3:57, he was supposed to be in the studio hours ago.

He fell back into his pillow, his palms kneading into his forehead. He sat up abruptly as his mind recalled the events of that morning. "JESS!" he called through his house, his voice echoing through the empty halls.

He threw the sheets off his body and trudged down the stairs, his bloodshot eyes trying their best to adjust to the dim light of the living room.

"JESS?" he called again, reaching the kitchen. He opened the cabinet door and blindly fumbled through his cache of medication, sighing almost happily as he found the Advil, his only hopes of terminating his piercing headache.

He pulled out the bottle, and swallowed three dry, his hands shaking as he dropped them to his sides. He sunk down the side of the hardwood cabinets, landing onto the marble floor with a thud.

JC tried his best to recall the events of that morning, but his mind failed him. He had drunk through the night, drinks upon drinks, with the intent to drown the pain she had caused him the night before. From that moment on, things were fuzzy. He remembered watching her in all her beauty, the gentle rise and fall of her chest, the way her soft lips parted when she slept. He remembered kissing her, kissing her hard, his drunken state making it hard to restrain his uncontrollable hunger for her. He rubbed his face as he remembered how he pressed himself onto her, her soft cries, the tears on her face.

He pounded his fist into the tile beneath him, barely cringing as pain coursed through his hand. They were over- they had to be. Jess would never stay after that morning. If her confidence in their relationship had been shaky before, the morning’s events must have shattered it entirely.

Suddenly, all of their relationship’s flaws surfaced. It had always felt one-sided, like he was the only one in love. He had thought it was getting better, that she was starting to comprehend just how deep his love ran for her, that she was his entire universe, his entire purpose for living.

He felt tears spring into his eyes, burning as they seeped onto the flesh beneath his eyes.

An overwhelming sense of bitterness and revenge orbited through his head as he heard stirring in the hall and jumped, his heart only half wishing that it was Jess. But then she appeared, her short blonde hair in short curls around her face, her blue eyes holding a sense of worry. "JC?" Alex asked, her soft, alto voice resounding through the room.

He didn’t answer but pulled himself from the cool tile and slowly padded towards her, his eyes focusing on her figure. She was dressed in a pair of jean shorts, a gray T-shirt covering her chest and sleek shoulders.

He came up from behind her, and wrapped his arms around her possessively, turning her to face him. She turned, her exquisite face holding a sense of shock as she faced him, it calming as she realized it was him. "JC," she breathed, "you scared me. Where were you today?" she asked, her concern evident in her voice.

"Jess and I broke up," he stated, putting on his best puppy-dog face. He let out a sigh of relief inside, he hadn’t forgotten his old tricks.

Alex’s heart jumped up a mile before it landed in her stomach with a thud. "Oh, I’m sorry, sweetie," she said as he looked at the ground, her heart beating faster with each growing second.

"Yeah," he said softly, "I just needed some time alone, sorry," he said as he looked up. "Alex, I was just thinking, I’m really sorry about the way I treated you when we were together, it was wrong." He looked down towards his hands twisting them as he forced a look of guilt onto his face.

" And I was wrong," he continued before looking up, his blue eyes sincere, "I was wrong for letting you slip away, and now I see that."

And those words did if for Alex, everything she had been praying for finally had come. She felt tears of happiness spring into her soft blue eyes, her knees going weak as she tried to speak. "I…I…I don’t know what to say…" she trailed off.

He smiled, his beauty causing her to just stare in awe. "Don’t say anything Lexi," he said his voice deep with passion, "just let me kiss you." His lips crashed onto hers with an immense force, his hands ravaging over her body, his mind completely forgetting about Jess.

She frantically pulled his shirt from his body, leaving him in his boxers, his lean body pressing up against hers. He quickly removed her T-shirt, his hands massaging over her breasts, her mouth widening in raw pleasure. He started for her shorts as the phone rang, his answering machine picking it up on the third ring.

"Hey, you’ve reached Josh’s. I’m not in right now, so leave me a message and I’ll get back to ya when I get the time!!" the message was followed by a high pitched beep and then a few seconds of silence before Jess’ voice floated through the phone.

"JC? Are you there?" she asked softly, "sorry I left, I just had class and I really needed to go and talk to someone…Look, we really need to talk, I just…" her voice cracked a little and he heard her soft sniffles, "I just want to work this out C, I miss you…" she trailed off again, her voice faltering, "I love you, call me…"

Alex stopped dead in her tracks, moving off of him instantly. "JC…" she started, looking towards him for an explanation. He gave her nothing, his face blank, his emotions swirling in utter confusion.

They hadn’t broken up. She still loved him.

"Lexi, I…" he stopped because he didn’t know. Jess still loved him, and deep down, he knew he loved her. They both loved him. And then it occurred to him what a terribly horrible person he was. He had just lead a woman who was in love with him to believe that he loved her, and betrayed Jess at the same time.

"God, Lex, I am so sorry," he said, reaching out to touch her arm.

"JC, don’t touch me!" she screamed, backing away, tears falling from her clear blue eyes. She pulled her shirt back over her head, and got up from the ground.

"Lexi, sweetheart, I, I don’t know what to say. I am so sorry."

"JC I don’t want to hear it. I’ve heard it all before! And the worst part is, I still love you." She opened the door and left, slamming the door behind her.

JC sunk down onto his knees, tears starting to glisten in his eyes. If they hadn’t been over this morning, they were now.
