"Good morning sweetheart."
"Morning mum." Jasmine stepped into the kitchen. Her mother sat by the table, drinking coffee and reading the newspaper. Jasmine made a sandwich and took a glass of orange juice and sat down by her mum. Her mum looked up and smiled, but her smile immediately changed.
"Oh my God! What happened to you, child!! Wait, don't tell me it's Sebastian again…"
Jasmine didn't answer.
"That's it! I'm calling the police!" Her mother got up and walked to the phone.
"Wait mum! You don't have to…"
Her mum had tears in her eyes. She couldn't bare to see her daughter like this. So many times she had tried to convince her daughter to leave her boyfriend, that he wouldn't stop…but to no use. Sometimes Jasmine tried to blame it on something else, like that she had fallen at gymclass. Or she tried to hide the bruises, thinking her mum wouldn't see them. But she knew, she could see it in her daughter's eyes when she was hurt. She knew her daughter, they were very close ever since Jasmine's father died… "Mum… I broke up with him…"
Her mum snapped out from her thoughts.
"What? Sorry, what did you say honey?" "…I left him"
Her mum smiled through the tears.
"Oh sweetie, I'm so glad you've finally realized what I've been trying to say to you…I'm so proud of you!! …and I'm here for you, we can get through this together."
They were hugging each other by now, both smiling and crying at the same time.
"Thanks mum… I love you."
"I love you too, honey." her mum replied and gave her a kiss on the forehead.
They laughed a little, then her mum's face lit up.
"Oh… I got something for you…" she got up and walked up to her room. Jasmine followed.
"What?!" she asked curiously.
"You'll see… go down to the living room and I'll bring it to you." her mum said laughing a little at her curious daughter.
Jasmine did as she was told, and went to the living room. She sat there watching the pictures on the wall of her, her mum and a couple of her dad… She missed him, but she and her mum were doing great.
She and her mum had lived here together for a couple of years now. It wasn't a very big house, but it was enough for the two of them. Upstairs there were two bedrooms with a bathroom each, and down here a kitchen, a living room, her mum's work room, a hallway and a guest bathroom. They had moved here after her father died. They wanted a new start and thought it were for the best to move to a new city, and start a new life together. They had helped decorate the entire house together, it was a great opportunity for the two of them to get to spend some time together. They weren't just mother and daughter anymore, the death of her father had brought them closer to each other, now they were best friends too.
"Close your eyes."
Jasmine snapped out from her thoughts when her mum came down the stairs. She closed her eyes.
"What did you get me?"
"You weren't supposed to get this yet… but I thought now is a great time to give you this… and I think you need it." her mum explained and continued.
"Give me your hands… Don't peak!"
Jasmine laughed and held up her hands in front of her.
"Here you go, sweetie."
Jasmine could feel several pieces of paper in her hands, but she couldn't figure out what they were.
"Can I look now?"
"Yeah, you can open your eyes now."
Jasmine opened her eyes slowly, and looked in her hands. First she didn't understand what it was. She looked closer, and read what it said on the first piece of paper.
"…um… an airplane ticket…" She looked up at her mum, who was smiling, but Jasmine still didn't get it. She looked under the ticket.
"…reservation at a hotel… and… what's this?…" her heart started beating faster, and she tried not to scream.
"Mum!!! Is this what I think it is!!??" her mum just smiled and laughed at her excited daughter.
"…but… but… HOW?!! These are like… IMPOSSIBLE to get!!" Jasmine continued "How did you…?"
"I got a few contacts." her mum said, laughing even more, happy to see her daughter so thrilled.
She hugged her and said:
"Congratulations Jasmine!! You're going to a Backstreet Boys concert!!"
"Oh!!… I don't know what to say…. Thanks mum!!" and she hugged her mother tighter.
"You're welcome, honey. I'm just so pleased to se you so happy, it was a while ago I saw your beautiful smile."
Jasmine was a big fan of the Backstreet Boys, she had been since the start. You couldn't say she's a fanatic, that'll do absolute ANYTHING just to get a glimpse of them, and scream in their face if she'd finally saw them. But she was a big fan, and she had tried to get a ticket to their concert, but they were sold out… So seeing this ticket in her hands was a dream come true for her.
When Jasmine had calmed down, her mum explained everything.
"The concert is in 20 days, it's the beginning of their new tour as you probably know. You were suppose to leave in 15 days… but I'm sure I can make a few phone-calls, so you'll be able to leave tomorrow already. I mean… then you'll have plenty of time to go shopping, and whatever you wanna do… and then you don't have to see Sebastian anytime soon."
"Oh mum!! You're the best!! That's exactly what I needed. But… what are you going to do all alone here?"
"Don't worry about me.. and besides, I have that business trip, I told you about, next week."
"Yeah…" Jasmine hugged her mum once again. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!"
"You've already thanked me… I'm just glad for you… But you'd better run up and start packing. You're leaving tomorrow, and you're gonna be gone for twenty days!! If I know you as well as I think, then you have A LOT of packing to do!!" her mum said laughing.
Jasmine gave her mum a quick kiss on the cheek and thanked her one more time, and then went upstairs to pack her bag.
