My Influences
My earliest influence was Jimi Hendrix. I started out learning to play "Fire", "Foxey Lady" and "Purple Haze". I also started listening to a lot of jazz in the early '80s. My first Jazz favorite was Pat Metheny.
In the mid '80s Stevie Ray Vaughan came out and I immediately started to work his chops into my style. I also started learning a lot of traditional blues like Albert King, B.B. King, Albert Collins and Buddy Guy. ZZ top and Cream are other favorites.
In the late '80's I started to listen to a lot more jazz. I really enjoy good sax playing, and fell in love with Charlie Parker and John Coltrane. Other jazz favorites of mine are Wes Montgomery, Clifford Brown, Max Roach, Wynton Marsalis and Joshua Redmund.
Today I listen to a wide variety of Jazz and Blues. I am influenced by modern artists like Jimmy Lane, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Robben Ford, Chris Duarte and Greg Osby.
My Style
My playing style can best be characterized as an aggressive jazzy blues. I play mostly in a blues style, but use a lot of 9 and 11 chords to produce a jazzier feel. I also play very aggressively. I am regularly complemented on the energy in my playing. I am proficient at blues style lead, and incorporate many chord fragments and full step bends into my lead work.
Blues with an Attitude
Recently, I formed a blues power trio called "Midnight Train" with Chris Evenson on Bass and Mike Martin on Drums. We are working toward gigs in early July. Stay tuned gig postings as soon as we are ready to head out and tear the house down!
