Mood:

I hate the way some radio announcers/hosts mispronounce their words. Its my personal opinion that if they are good enought to host a radio or tv show, then they ought to be making an effort to 'speak proper like'.
I go to bed every night with my radio switched on - it helps me to relax, switch MY thoughts off and fall asleep. I've been doing that since high school. Late night talk back is great for that.
The other night the host was talking about coffee -and kept referring to it as eXpresso. Mmmmm, should'nt that be ESpresso?
Next morning I looked it up on a great web site - 100 Most Often Mispronounced Words and Phrases in English
100 mispronounced words
Lo, and behold it IS pronounced ESpresso. I decided that it was my civic duty to notify the host, with my new found *smug* information. An email was sent to the radio station by express post the next morning.
He was quite obviously impressed with it because he happened to read it out on his show the following night. What followed was a jammed switch board. He was inundated with calls not only pointing out his language boo boos but with many other examples of how the language is being mangled.
It made great late night time entertainement!
Ps - before I get to smug about this, I have to confess that I've also been guilty of calling it 'expresso'in the past.
My DD who is aux fait with coffee terminology pointed that out to me a while ago. I guess I was just waiting to ESpress my opinion about it!
Cheers mates.
