General Conditions of Play

Fees

The total fee for any venue will be composed of:

            i)  the green fee for the course
ii)  a £2 prize money levy
            iii) the cost of lunch
iv) any gratuity which is stipulated by the golf club.

Formats

1.        Individual Stableford
This format will be played off full handicaps with strokes and points recorded on all cards. Cards must be signed (by player) and countersigned (by marker) to avoid disqualification.

2.        Four Ball, Better Ball Stableford (Two per team)
The format is similar to that of Individual Stableford (full handicaps) except that only the better score for each hole will be recorded on the card and the team score will be the sum of these better scores at each hole aggregated over 18 holes. Please record BOTH scores.

3.        Team Stableford (Three per team)
Again the format is similar except that the best TWO scores for each hole will be aggregated and the poorest score dropped.

In the event of a tie there will be a counterback with the best points score for the LAST NINE HOLES PLAYED being declared the winner(s). Should the result remain unresolved the individual, or team, with the best points score over the last six holes, then the last three holes will win. We then resort to the number of pars and birdies scored.

Handicapping

All participants will start the 2003 season by playing off the handicaps allocated at the end of the 2002 season. This allocation is based on a player's performance and consistency during the previous season and NOT on any anomalous score returned. Any members who have played consistently below par will have their handicap reduced; any members who have played consistently above par will have their handicap increased, thereby reducing the differential between good and moderate players. Each member has a copy of the handicap list. Should a member have a particularly successful round of golf during the season then his/her handicap will be reduced in the following way:

Individual Stableford events

Winner      -   2 Strokes deducted
Second     -   1 Stroke deducted
Third        -   1 Stroke deducted

Team Stableford events

All Winning Team  -  1 Stroke deducted each
All Second Team  -  1 Stroke deducted each
All Third Team     -   No deductions

Should a players score between 37 & 40 points in a round his/her handicap will be reduced by one stroke although not placed. Any player who scores 41 or more, although not placed, that player will have a handicap reduction of two strokes.

Fixtures and Formats

All the necessary information is contained in the fixture list which will be found at the centre of the annual leaflet or the fixtures page of this website.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the competing individual, or teams, who come first, second or third. If conditions permit, there will be a prize for the longest drive on a hole to be specified (only drives finishing on the fairway will be eligible), and a nearest-the-flag (on the green) at a hole, also to be specified. From time to time a birdie competition will replace the longest drive and nearest-the-flag. There will be a separate prize for the winning guest.

Ball Sweeps

We now have a large stock of pinnacle golf balls with the Society logo imprinted. These will be raffled during the course of the season; they are for sale at the highly competitive price of £5 for 3 and £19 for 20.
