With a thud the machine landed on the ground. All five of them were literally shaking.
“Did it stop?” Chris asked nervously.
“I think so,” said Lance. “Where are we?” he asked, looked around. They had landed in front of a large house. The sun was shining brightly and judging by its position, it had do be around 10:30 or 11:00 in the morning.
“Hey!” shouted JC, “That’s our house!” The guys looked in the direction he was pointing and sure enough, they were in front of their own house. However, it looked somewhat different.
Suddenly, the front door opened. They all watched intently as Justin came out of the door. Or was it Justin? It sure looked like Justin except this guy looked like he was in his mid-thirties.
A woman and a girl that was about eleven years old came out. The woman kissed the man and said “Good morning honey, would you like your breakfast? The other guys and their families have already eaten.”
“Sure dear,” came the response. “Good morning princess,” he said as he turned to the little girl, “How’s my girl?”
“Fine,” said the little girl.
Just then, a man that resembled Joey only much older came out. “Morning J, sleep good?” he said.
“Morning Joey. I slept very good, thank you.”
“Come inside now honey, and eat your breakfast,” the woman said. The four of them went back inside the house and shut the door.
“Guys,” said Justin, “This may sound weird but I think that was me and Joey, only I also believe that woman was my wife and the little girl was my daughter. I think we’ve traveled into the future guys. Excuse me!” he shouted at a young woman who was walking by. “What’s the date today, please?”
“What are you!? Stupid?! It’s July 4th, 2015! God, people really need to buy calendars these days!” She marched off down the street.
“Yep, guys! I was right. We are thirteen years in the future!”
“Than,” said Lance, “This must be some sort of time machine. How do we get back home?”
“That’s easy! I’ll just turn this key again!” But this time, the voice just said that the battery was low and the machine had to sit and recharge for a week. “Lovely, just lovely! Now what?”
“I guess we’re stuck here for a week,” Joey said. “Maybe we should ask if we can stay with them.”
“Joey, are you crazy?!” shouted JC, “We can’t stay with them!”
“Why not, it’s our house?”
“Because, they’ll flip! How would you react if your younger self came to you and asked if he could stay with you for a week?”
“Good point.”
“Whether they flip out or not, it’s our only choice,” said Justin. He unbuckled his seat belt and got up. Then, he started walking up to the house. The others watched as he approached the door and knocked.
The door was opened by a woman who looked slightly older than Justin’s wife. She looked at him with an expression of confusion. She glanced pass him and saw the others still in the time machine.
“Can I help you?” she asked him.
“Um, yes. My name is Justin Timberlake and my…”
“Justin!” the woman yelled into the house. The older Justin came hurrying to the door.
“Yes?” he said.
“This young man claims to be you. Do you know anything about this?”
“Hmmm, let’s see,” the man said, gazing Justin up and down. ‘How extraordinary, he is me, from about the year 2002! But how did he get here?”
“Ask him, not me.”
“How exactly did you get here?”
“Well, the guys and I went for a drive and we came across this creepy old house. Being the dare-devil that I am, I decided to go in and check it out. The others decided to come with me. We found this machine,” he indicated the time machine where the guys still sat, “In the basement. Being curious we decided to find out what it was. I followed the instructions the machine gave me and it brought us here.”
“How amazing. I do believe that you or me, whichever you want to say, have found a time machine.”
“We kinda figured that.”
“Quickly, come inside, all of you.” He motioned to all of them and they all got up and followed him inside.
He led them to the living room where everyone else who lived in the house sat. They were watching what had to be the television. Here the guys got their first glimpses of the older JC, Chris, and Lance.
The older Justin walked over and turned off the television. “Listen up, everyone we have some guests in the house. Before you say anything, let me explain,’ he said, seeing the astonished looks on peoples’ faces when they saw who the guests were. He launched into the story Justin had recounted to him. “That is why they are here,” he finished.
“Is there any way you can get back to 2002?” asked the older JC.
“Oh yeah, we just have to wait a week first,” responded Chris.
“Why do you have to wait a week?” asked older Lance.
“Well,” Lance responded, “We tried to get back as soon as we knew where we were, but the time machine said the battery was low and it had to sit for a week to recharge it. So, now, we’re stuck here until the battery is recharged.”
“Oh. Well, you’re welcome to stay in the guest rooms upstairs if you like. You know where they are. You’re lucky you made so many guest rooms. There’s still enough for each of you to have your own, even after using some of them for the kids.”
“Thanks,” said Justin. He and the guys went up to the guest rooms to get settled. They hurried down again when they realized they had no extra clothes or toothbrushes or anything.
“Um,” said Lance, “We kinda don’t have anything we need to stay.”
“Hey,” said the older Chris, “Don’t worry, you clothes and stuff won’t get dirtier than they already are. This is because when you go back home it’ll be exactly the same time it was when you left. Time travel takes none of your own time’s time. So, you could stay here for years and it will still drop you off at the same time you started.”
“Chris would know,” said older Joey, “He’s had his own experience with time travel before. He’s fascinated by it. He even built his own time machine and it really works.”
“Now that an idea!” said JC, “Can we use your time machine to get home?”
“Unfortunately not,” said older Chris.
“Why not?”
“Well, you could take it home with you sure, but then how is it going to get back here? It’s impossible to take a time machine one way and not take it back.”
“Can’t we just send it back by itself?”
“Unfortunately not. Time machines don’t work unless they have a traveler with them.”
“Well, can’t you take us all back and then bring the machine home?”
“That idea would work, if my time machine wasn’t currently set on future mode. It would take a week to switch it. So, either way, it looks like you’re stuck here for a week.”
“Well,” said Justin, “Better make the most of it while we’re here. What was it you were watching?”
“The news,” said Justin’s daughter. “Are you really my dad when he was younger?”
“Yep.”
“I don’t have to ask my dad that question,” said a young teenaged girl, “I know that’s him. By the year 2002, I was already born.”
“Don’t brag young lady,” said the older Joey.
“I wasn’t bragging. I was telling the truth.”
“Be lucky she’s still little in your time,” he said to Joey. “Enjoy it while it lasts because once she becomes a teenager, she’ll be a real pain in your butt.”
“Thanks for the warning.”
“No problem.”
“So,” said Justin, “You’re my daughter. What’s your name?”
“Chloe.”
“Chloe? Cute. Do you have a middle name?”
“Uh-huh. It’s Renee. My full name is Chloe Renee Timberlake. I like my name. I wanna be a singer when I grow up, just like my dad. My little brother wants to be an actor.”
“Oh, I have a son too?”
“Yep! His name is Chance Guy Timberlake. He likes his name but he hates when people make fun of it.”
“Where is he?”
“He’s in bed. He has the flu.”
“Oh, I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. He’ll be better in a day or two.”
“That’s good.”
They all continued talking for a while and then went out for lunch.
