Two musical ideas.
January 25th, 2007

I will be writing this entry in two parts. This first part is going to describe my intended project, and the second will link to the result and how successful it was.

I am going to be making a song, a composition of sorts. My goal is to make a 5 to 10 minute classical compoistion in the tradition of Ravel, Shosticovich, and Philip Glass put to a rock drum beat. I have no clue where I am going with this, but I have three hours before I have to leave for school. We'll see how far I go.

Heres the deal: I'm out of the loop when it comes to music creation. I just work the basic idea's, I've rarely go beyond that. With that said, this is what I have accomplished:

110

I put a very basic 4/4 drum beat against a piano playing an 8 measure block chord loop. I then recorded an improvised string/trumpete part, and finished it all off with an improvised string bass part. The result isn't exactly pretty.

3/4 Model

I named this 3/4 "Model" because I have come up with a new idea for how to go about making music. I call it the "reason peice outline to finale sheet music model". I put two very simple melodies together, playing at the same time, that outline broad harmoic ideas, and then put different block chords against it. I then copy and pasted the section, only changing the key it is played in up a perfect fourth. I think this actually sounds pretty good, although it is crippled from thinking pauses.

I'll be working on improving these ideas in the following days. I've been rethinking what I'm going to write about on this, because I can't be wasting my time writing about stupid shit I don't really care about. There's no point.
