How many of your childhood loves were somewhat pink tinged, when you think about it?

Marge Simpson's sisters? Shyah, sure they're sisters.
Mister Magoo? Or just a confirmed bachelor?
Velma was a given, but the blond guy in Scooby Doo? You can't tell me that bouffant hair and ultra white tight shirt wasn't saying something.
One Smurfette for a whole gay village of Smurfs?
Mister Benn - yeah right, goes into a cubicle and discovers an exciting new world of fulfilment and red indian outfits.
Marmalade Atkins - boy did I have a baby-dyke crush on her.
There's something just a little too eager about the speed with which Bugs slips into a pink slip.
Tintin - Jimmy Somerville haircut and that poodle... pffft.

Postman Pat - A single Postman with a married lady friend and a cat, c'mon.

Paddington - Where do I start...

They did a bit about the gay cartoon characters on the radio yesterday. They got it from a gay web radio site that I can't remember the name of.

Peppermint Patty was like no. 2 on the list of closeted gay characters.

Velma? Of course. Fred? Absolutely and I'm thinking something not-so-wholesome might have been going on between Shaggy and Scooby...

Marmalade Atkins (well, not her, but the girl who played her) is still gorge. She acts in Tracy Beaker, some shit series on Nickelodeon or somesuch.

I was amazed to recently learn that Tony Hart is gay. In fact I still don't really believe it.

Didn't Charlotte Coleman play Marmalade? If so, she died a few years ago. A tragic occurrence blamed on an asthma attack but I remember her looking pretty ill for some time prior to her death. :-(

Snowy was not a poodle but I fully agree with your highly qualified assessment of the bequiffed Belgian boy.

Yeah, I was about to say that. CC was ace. The Tracy Beaker actress does look lots like her, though - but lots younger, and less dead.

True, o nameless commenting one, but definitely a poodle in spirit.

It's odd when you find there are some distinctions though - Bert and Ernie - long time married couple, whereas Kermit - merely metrosexual.

Whoops! T'was I, as if you didn't know. I also forgot to mention the secret affair between Tintin and Captain Haddock, an obvious long term relationship if you ask me. Those Thompson Twins could never get a look in.

Bert and Ernie, I found to be annoying and obvious with their depraved behaviour only stifled by the presence of their surrogate child, the rubber ducky.

I don't know about Kermit as he doesn't seem spectacularly anything but that Grover character was a right dodgy geeza. Then there's Big Bird and Snuffleupaguss whose similarity in size precluded anyone else from their torrid transgressions upon each other.

I often wonder how large a percentage of our generation actually had such strong feelings about Charlotte. Actually I lie, I only just wondered that but I may consider it quite frequently in the future.

What about Mr. Rogers? Never saw a female in there that wasn't a puppet. The man played with puppets all day.
I had a thing for peppermint patty's "freind" Marcy. C'mon, she called her "Sir" for god's sake...
Dr. Smith from "Lost in Space" is obvious. Other obvious cases. Mrs. Drysdale from the Beverly Hillbillies, The Professor from Gilligan's Island.

More than one person I know believes that Janice from the Muppets is bi. She plays bass in the band (Electric Mayhem). I have no opinion about this... she's Janice. She plays the bass. She's a muppet. Is she bi? I have no idea. I always thought she was Floyd's chick.

I think she's definitely flexi sexi - perhaps bi but not tried?
