I'm F***ing Confused!!

Here is the three key things that you need to know:

    What is a Podcast?

Despite the name, a podcast has nothing to do with an iPod. A podcast is just a method of distributing multimedia files over the internet. It’s simple as that. The mp3 files that are in the "Episodes" page are the multimedia files that I'm trying to distribute. How do they get distributed? They get distributed using an RSS feed, which we learn about below.

    What is RSS feed?

RSS stands for "Real Simple Syndication." Basically, an RSS file contains a series of tags that tells an aggregator (podcast reciever) when a podcast has been updated. We learn about aggregators below.

    What is an Aggregator?

Aggregators (or podcast receivers) reduce the time and effort needed to regularly check websites of interest for updates, creating a unique information space or "personal newspaper." An aggregator is able to subscribe to a feed, check for new content at user-determined intervals, and retrieve the content.

The interface of an aggregator is similar to a file sharing program. When you download the aggregator, and run it, you will see a text field that allows you to paste the URL of an RSS feed and subscribe to the podcast. Now that you are subscribed to the postcast, you will receive the updates of all the mp3 files of the podcast you subscribed to. This saves you the time of constantly checking the podcast author's website to see if he or she posted a new podcast.
