A Poem for You

A poem I thought up in the middle of the night, inspired in part by Lasha Lee's And I Have Touched the Sky, Here There Be Dragons, Two Divided by Zero, and Street of Dreams. Available here. I came up with the idea in the middle of the night, so it took me a while to get around to actually writing it.I'm not sure how much I like it. In my opinion, it didn't articulate the deep emotiont that it should have. And the title sucks, but I'm just not good at titles. So there you have it. Read on, and for crissakes, give me feedback!

The Pledge

I know that you have been hurt
So I pledge to make you believe in forever
I know that your days haunt your nights
So I pledge to guard your dreams
I know you have been abandoned
So I pledge to stand by your side
I know you have seen terrible things
So I pledge to show you all that is beautiful
I know you are human
So I pledge to be your shoulder to cry on
I know your soul is burdened
So I pledge to be your friend to confide in
I know you have been betrayed
So I pledge to hold you closer than any other
I know you fear the future
So I pledge to love you to the end of time
I know you fear boredom
So I pledge to take you by surprise
I know you need to believe something
So I pledge to make you my forever
I pledge that you will never be alone

My Wonderful New Job

Ya, ya I know. I suck at updating. But seriously, I have been busy. I started a new job a week ago. Technically speaking, it's not actually a job. I don't get paid for it; I'm there on a volunteer basis. However, once I finish this program, I am considered 'trained' and next summer I can apply for the paid positions, and hopefully get one. So what is this mysterious job, you may ask? I'm working as a language facilitator with a group of Chinese students aged eleven through sixteen who are in Canada for two and a half weeks to improve their English and experience Canadian culture. Basically my job is to help them during their English lessons during the morning, and to encourage them to speak English during the afternoon activities. It doesn't sound hard, but it can be surprisingly challenging. Some of the kids only have about a year of English study. But even so, I am absolutely loving it. When I get home at the end of each day, I am so tired I just want to go straight to bed. So instead of blogging about it, I've been writing in my journal every night, and once they have gone home to Shanghai, I'll either write one massive post about the entire thing, or I'll make a series of smaller entries. However, until then, don't expect much in the way of posting.
