State Murder 2

State Murder – 2

(Introduction)

Second (Shorter) Letter to Mr. Jimmy Guerin

My December 2002 communication to Mr. Jimmy Guerin contained two separate sets of despatches in a broad enclosure. Part one forming the main historical chronology of events, now known as State Murder 1. Part two had more to do with efforts to secure justice and bring matters to public attention. Each section was kept apart and was referred to by an independent covering letter. The communication that follows introduces the second of those despatches.

As with the first section, because of contrasts in the mediums involved, typed A4 pages versus the Internet, there may be omissions from documents submitted to Jimmy Guerin. It is also true there may be expansion or development of other documents mentioned.

Being as I am still feeling my way into the magic of mounting computer presentations, decisions arrived at will be on an ad-hoc basis, on the hoof, as it were. In short, there is no firmly determined plan of action.

In time those items which suffer to be excluded may, in a broader contextual presentation, be placed on the Internet.

Given these qualifications, the introduction to what follows comes from my second December 2002 covering letter to Mr. Jimmy Guerin.

(Letter dated December 2002 to Mr. Jimmy Guerin)

Seán Kelly
474 Galtymore Road,
Drimnagh,
Dublin 12.

Dear Mr. Guerin,

In addition to the covering letter and compilations in the main item of correspondence transferred to you under this cover, I separately include the following five envelopes and their enclosures.

Envelope marked "1" contains a covering letter and enclosures forwarded to Mr. Willie Penrose T.D., the Labour Party. The content explains itself. A reply from Deputy Penrose is included.

Whatever discussions Deputy Penrose (and other Labour Party members written to) had with their colleague Mary Upton T.D., as mentioned in his letter, the latter did not contact me. The thought that she might never filled me with confidence that her interest would prove beneficial.

Envelope marked "2" contains a covering letter to Senator Jim Higgins of the Fine Gael Party. The enclosures referred to in the letter are the same as for Deputy Willie Penrose and for that reason are not included.

Two replies from Senator Higgins are attached. The justice spokespersons referred to in his letters never made contact with me.

An acknowledgement letter from Deputy Enda Kenny, Leader Fine Gael Party, forms part of that inclusion.

Envelope marked "3" contains correspondence to and from the Department of Foreign Affairs and to and from the office of the Information Commissioner. They concern a Freedom of Information application for the return of letters and enclosures sent to the Embassy of Ireland, London in 1985.

(The contents of envelope "3" are extensive. Because of technical difficulties arising from scanning and its use of space, it has been decided to exclude this detail until a future time.)

Envelope marked "4" contains correspondence between the Irish Nationwide Building Society, Dublin, and myself to do with a Non Resident account. Do note the cryptic reference in the fifth to last paragraph of a three page letter dated Tuesday 10.10.00 from me to Mr. Paul Brett, Investment Service Manager, Irish Nationwide Building Society. Should you wish to discuss this and other matters referred to in the various (enclosed) papers, I shall be pleased to do so.

Envelope marked "5" is a photocopy of a letter and an envelope from your sister Veronica. Also included is a photocopy of a poem forwarded to her Cloghran home following her death. There is no wish to cause distress or offence in subscribing these items.

The above listed particulars help to illustrate, in small part, the ongoing effort in this extraordinarily one-sided, difficult and protracted endeavour.

Would you care to help out in this fight – not just for me, but for others – living and dead, who in silence cry out for justice?

I ask that these latter enclosures not be photocopied or transmitted to other parties. They are given on loan.

Yours sincerely,
Seán Kelly

Mr. Jimmy Guerin.
Journalist,
The Sunday Independent,
Middle Abbey Street,
Dublin 1.

Note: My first two attempts to transfer letters and documents to Jimmy Guerin at the office of Independent Newspapers in Middle Abbey Street, Dublin failed. On the third attempt another journalist undertook to pass the parcel on to Mr. Guerin. By that time an addendum, envelope number "6", had been included. To simplify matters this has now been absorbed into envelope number "5". The content is best explained by a reading. It is the final inclusion in the compilation. Mr. Guerin never responded to or returned my communications.
