Shane Bernier

When Shane Bernier was asked what he wanted for his birthday, May 30th, his answer was out of the ordinary: he did not ask for toys, money, or video games. Yet the courageous seven-year-old from Lancaster, Ontario is no ordinary boy: he has been faced with unimaginable hardships and trials, maintaining his smile and enthusiasm throughout. Shane was diagnosed with leukemia at five, and experienced a relapse in June of 2006, after completing 108 weeks out of 130 of his treatment.

Shane�s unusual birthday wish? To break the world record for the most birthday cards received, his goal at 350 million cards. So far he has received over a hundred thousand, and the number grows every day. Key clubs all over the Long Island North division have been contributing, sending dozens of handmade cards to Shane, even working on cards as part of the last divisional meeting. Each card shows support for Shane as he comes closer to his goal, bringing joy to him and his family through such hard times.
