God in the Coffee Shop I once saw God at work in my favorite coffee shop. Amid the clang of commerce and the aroma of brewing coffee, I noticed a woman studying the Scriptures. A man was answering a younger man's persistent questions about the Lord, and another was encouraging a friend to find Christ's peace i hard times. Then I noticed the music playing on the sound system, a song by a Christian artist. It was an ordinary coffee shop, on an ordinary day, but God was at work there. The messages of the world are often announced with the volume set on high, as if heralded by trumoets. In contrast, God often moves quietly, using ordinary, simple interactions to reveal the nearness of the Kingdom. That morning when I left the coffee shop, my car radio ket me know that the world continues to spin in violent, self-serving ways. Yet I was encouraged because God is working. And we can join in.
