Sorry, no time this week for a full fledged write-up.  All the reports, including custom ones, have been updated.  Look for an article some time this weekend.  Oh, and be sure to take a look at the great race in Federal League, and the nose dive of Babe & Babe in the Union.

Batters and Pitchers of the Week

Power Alley

Top Players

(As determined by Runs Saved Against Average for pitchers and Adjusted OPS Against Positional Average for batters)

All Time Baseball IX is set to begin soon!

Quick Start Guide

1) Draft any player, of any season, throughout baseball history with two exceptions:

    - Only select players from 1876 to 1901 are available.  For players of these years, you must choose one of these.

    - 13 Negro league players are also available.  If interested, you must choose from this list.

2) Drafting is done "live" over the course of 10 days to 2 weeks.  Use this message board to post.

3) 30 Players need to be selected, they can be any mix of batters and pitchers.

4) Simulation results are based upon the players real life stats AND the era in which they played in.  40 HR in 2006 (NL Avg ERA was 4.49) is not as impressive as 40 HR in 1968 (NL Avg ERA was 3.43).  Bear this in mind, and this file of average stats by year will help.

5) And don't forget stadiums matter too.  Don't expect Colorado's Todd Helton to be a batting powerhouse if you play him Comerica park.

Here is a list of all files that will be useful to you.  And please read the Rules and Draft Day pages for a complete rundown of how it all works.

  • Eras - File of league batting and pitching averages for every year in baseball history.

  • Real-Life Batting Register - actual stats of previous batters used throughout most of ATB history

  • Real Life Pitching Register - actual stats of previous batters used throughout most of ATB history

  • Player Ratings - actual defensive and offense ratings of all batters used throughout most of ATB history.  These ratings have gone through an exhaustive overhaul in the off-season and are more accurate than ever.  Defense matters in this league, and don't expect to win if you focus merely on slow or poor fielding sluggers on offense.  And watch your team ERA improve with each defensive wizard you select.

  • 1880s Set - the list of available players to choose from when you want a player from the period 1876-1901

  • Negro League Set - the list of available players to choose from when you want a player from the negro leagues.

  • Negro League Results - Results of simulations for the selected NL'ers.  See the rules page for more on this.

  • Ballparks - to get a glimpse as to what stadiums throughout history favorer hitters or pitchers look here.  These are not ratings the software uses, but it is a good ballpark (pun intended) idea for each.

  • Eligible Batters and Pitchers for Computer Draft - The raw data file of Real Life data the computer teams will use to draft.  It includes Park Factors and League ERA information.  It does not include every player season the history of baseball, just the top 20,000 seasons or so.

  • ATB VIII Batting and Pitching Registers.  Here's how each player faired in last season's simulation.  Please remember this is just a sample of 1 season worth of data and results will almost assuredly fluctuate significantly in ATB IX.  Use it as a guide, but be warned.
