A Hero’s Child

Chapter Three

The new enemy was waiting. They were lurking. They had destroyed the stability of the Gundam pilots fourteen years ago and now time had destroyed their abilities. But there was a flaw; someone still knew where they all were. They would ruin everything. If the pilots retrieved their children all would be lost. There would be no way to defeat them then, and they would be destroyed. They had to work faster. They had to finish the mobile suits they were making and find those kids! Whoever was contacting them was doing a good job of covering their tracks. It would be hard to trace the phone calls to their locations but it didn’t matter. Their chance at ruling the colonies would come. They just had to get rid of those kids!

"Sir," A voice called out.

"Soldier, what is your report?" The commanding officer demanded.

"We have a positive on the area of one of the six children."

"Which one?"

"The Yuy son, Sir. Awaiting orders."

"Continue tracing the signal. No one acts until we have an exact address!"

"Yes Sir!" The soldiers saluted and marched off. The officer smiled. One down, five to go. This was getting easier by the second. In a few months the Yuy child would be out of his hair and then the rest would follow like lambs to the slaughter.

"Be careful Jason!" Mrs. Smikle called after her son.

"I will Mom, don’t worry about me." Jason yelled back. He led his dog into the van and waved goodbye to his parents. He was going to take his big golden retriever Pluto to a dog show about 100 miles from home. He would get to stay in a hotel and spend four days showing off his prize-winning pooch.

"You’re excited too, aren’t ya boy?" Jason laughed as he rubbed the dog’s neck and head. Pluto barked his response. As they drove, Jason saw a rare sight of warplanes flying overhead.

"There must be an air show coming up." Jason’s driver said.

"Yeah, maybe." Replied Jason. He watched with interest as the planes sped out into the distance. Jason sat in the van for another few hours. Jason was surprised, it didn’t usually take that long to get to the show.

"Hey dude, are you sure you’re not lost?" Jason asked.

"Yeah, I’m sure." Replied his driver. Jason wasn’t too sure. This guy was new and didn’t know where they were going. Jason would have been suspicious of a new driver but his usual driver called to tell him about the new guy. But Jason didn’t recognize where they were anymore. He was sure they were going to the same place they always went to, so where were they now?

"Hey, where are we going?"

The man turned and looked at Jason. He pulled the car over. Jason started to become alarmed. He instantly shot up his defenses. He moved his hand towards the door handle discreetly incase he had to run.

"No need for that, boy." The driver said. "I’m not going to try and kill you. If I did, your Father would kill me, if your Mother didn’t get me first." The man scratched his chin as if pondering the thought.

Jason was confused.

"I see," Said the man, "You have no idea what I’m talking about."

"No, I don’t." Replied Jason.

"I can’t tell you much. You will find out when you’re ready." The man warned. "But I can tell you that you are adopted, which I’m sure you already know."

"Of course I know!" Snarled Jason.

The old man grumbled a bit before he spoke again. "You are needed, Jason. Your parents were both major players in the war between Earth and the colonies. But they’re older now. Don’t tell them I said that. They’re not as old as me, they’re in their mid-thirties."

"You’re point being…"

"Bah! Shut up and let me talk!" The man cleared his throat. "Anyway, I am taking you to train. You will be the next Heero Yuy, if you want to be."

"And what if I don’t want to be?" Jason snapped.

"Then you will most likely die,"

"Is that a threat?"

"No, it is the truth. You don’t have a choice but to fight, so if you don’t want to then you will die."

"Oh really? So then where are you taking me?"

"To the Preventor base in Outer Space."

Jason’s face immediately lit up. "The Preventors! Cool!"

"So you’ve heard of them?"

"Of course! Who hasn’t? Are my parents really Preventors?"

"Yes, and damn good ones at that."

"So that’s where you’re taking me? Do I get to meet my birth parents?"

"Yes, if you come with me."

Jason thought for a moment. "All right, I guess."

The man smiled, "Good, I have one more to get before you can meet the Preventors, so you will have to take the shuttle without me. Lucrezia will meet you when you arrive."

"Wait a minute," Jason gasped. "You mean Lucrezia Noin? Lucrezia Noin-Merquise?"

"The very same."

"Cool!" Jason said again.

~

The shuttle arrived at the colony L1. Jason stepped off the shuttle.

"You must be Jason." A woman said. Jason turned around to see none other than Lucrezia Noin-Merquise. She was even hotter in person than she was in the books, and she was almost forty! How on Earth do you look that good when you’re forty? Jason wondered.

Noin eyed him for a minute. "Come with me," She said, "You can meet the others."

"Oh…OK" Jason stuttered. He followed Noin through the halls to a room.

"You can wait here, meet the other kids, but uh…I think David was allergic to dogs." She looked over Jason’s dog, Pluto.

"I’m not allergic to dogs!" A voice called through the door. "That was my Father, uh…adoptive Father."

Jason snickered. Noin opened the door, "So no one here is allergic to dogs?" She asked.

"NO," Everyone answered in unison.

"That’s funny," Muttered Noin, "I was sure someone was allergic to SOMETHING." She continued to mumble to herself as she left. Jason entered the room and the door locked behind him. He saw four other people there. There was a boy with shoulder-length black hair arguing with a girl who looked like him. A boy with blonde hair sat in a corner reading some sort of history book while a slightly younger girl was sitting in the opposite corner. She was leaning in on her hand and playing with a clown doll. Pluto immediately got excited and started jumping from one person to the next. The two Asian people immediately shoed him away, the blonde boy gave him a pat on the head. Then he bounded up to the young girl and started to lick her face. The girl started to giggle.

"What a cute dog." She laughed. "What’s his name?"

"Pluto," Jason told her.

The girl laughed. "Pluto?"

"Yeah, you got a problem with that?"

"No," The girl chuckled. "That’s a cute name, honest."

Jason raised his eyebrows at her.

"What?" The girl demanded.

Jason rolled his eyes.

"My name is Indigo." She said, extending her hand. "Jason," Jason said, they shook hands. Jason noticed that she had a bit of a French accent.

"You from France or something?" He asked.

"Hun…Why? Oh, my accent." She giggled. "Oui, I’ve lived in France for fourteen years."

Jason nodded. He looked around the room. The blonde boy seemed to just notice him. "Hello," He said, "I’m David."

"Hi David," Indigo and Jason said in unison like they were in an AA meeting. David just shook his head and turned back to his book.

"What’s with the book, David?" Indigo asked.

"I’m trying to figure out who my parents are."

"Why?" Asked Jason, "That dude said he’d tell us soon enough so why go through all the trouble?"

"I know," David sighed, "But I just can’t wait that long."

Jason and Indigo looked at each other then started to laugh. "That is sad, David."

"Hey, let me go, I’m not going! You can’t make me!" Screaming was heard from outside the door.

Noin and the guy who was driving Jason pushed a screaming girl with blue hair into the room. Pluto started barking and the Asian kids had to scream even louder over all the noise. Indigo, Jason and David looked on in despair

"SHUT UP!" David screamed. Suddenly everyone stopped talking, except for Pluto who barked a few more times before he finally stopped.

"Thank you," David said. Then he turned back to his book. Everybody sweatdropped. "You are really pathetic David!" Indigo screamed. David didn’t notice.

"Wait here," Noin said to the girl. "We’ll be down in a minute to take you to your rooms." With that she and the man left them again.

Jason smiled at the new girl. She has blue hair that was tied back into a tight braid. But the braid started at the base of her neck leaving a puff of loose hair around her face. She had beautiful deep, cobalt blue eyes and a nice shape. She was definitely cute. Jason whistled at her. She spun around and Jason winked. She glared for a minute and then smiled. Jason seemed alarmed when she started to walk towards him. She stopped right in front of him and smirked. "Do you have mental problems?" She asked sweetly.

"Uh…uh…uh…" Jason stuttered.

"I thought so," She grinned. Then she walked seductively to the other end of the room and sat down. She spent the next hour glaring at Jason from across the room.

"It’s time," Noin said. All the kids stood up and followed her out of the room.

"Um…excuse me." David called. He ran up to the front beside Noin. "When do we get to meet our parents? I mean that IS the only reason I came here."

"You didn’t have a choice but to come here David, and you will meet your parents in due time."

David sighed. "So where are we going?" He asked.

"To your rooms, tomorrow you’ll start your training and perhaps meet your families," Noin informed them, "If they decide to be on time for once," She added in a mumble.

She took the group to a long hallway with three rooms on each side. "The girls’ rooms are on the right and the boys’ rooms are on the left." She pointed to the six rooms. Each person peered into a separate room. David and the Asian boy both looked into the first room on the left.

"Back off, this rooms mine!" The boy snarled. David frowned and headed to the next room, but Jason was already there and making himself at home. David grumbled and took the last room on the left. The Asian girl took the last room as well, the girl with blue hair got stuck in the middle and Indigo took the first room. After each person was settled into their rooms, Noin left them and told them to be ready for orientation by seven o’clock. That gave them four hours to do nothing.
