Lil'
Kim – The Jump Off
The Jump Off is a guaranteed
trunk rattler, the beat is chicken pox…classic Timbo…a split second
loop off the 'Get Your Freak On' sample is utilized along with some ill synths
and horn/bass combinations…no denying that Missy aside, Kim’s
got the tightest flow outta all the femcees. With lines like: “Lemme
show you what I’m all about/ how I make a Sprite can disappear in my
mouth,” you know the Queen Bee is back in herre…and she knows
what her demographic expects from her…Mr. Cheeks shows up outta nowhere
to BS for the song outro…is that really needed? Just like all the B.I.G
mentions.
Killer Mike f/ Big Boi – A.D.I.D.A.S
Before you jump to conclusions this aint a shoe advertl…and this ain’t Nelly…this is the dirty south…and this is Killer Mike bwoy! The DF’s next to blow…if you liked ‘Akshon’…you gonna love A.D.I.D.A.S. (for those who don’t know, it stands for: All Day I Dream About Sex). The beat is ridiculous…I fell in love with the stutter step of the track after about three seconds, reminisent of ‘The Whole World’… hottest part about this joint is when he asks his Gramps for Viagra so he can get his extended freak on…oh s**t…its too bad Goodie Mob is no more but the Dungeon’s young guns are very, very promising.
DMX – X Gon Give It To Ya
I
was expecting the typical growls and grunts once I popped this in…and
I wasn’t disappointed. But give it a sec and you will, as I did, notice
this is the Swizz-less production…. This is lead single off the Cradle
to the Grave soundtrack…it bumps…it bumps hard…Earl does
the usual…lashes out at the unsavoury state of hip hop in his attempt
to bring it back to the sewer…this time around though he’s back
in fine form…you can truly feel the hunger and anger that had disappeared
for a hot sec on this attempt at reclaiming Def Jam’s top seat. On a
side note, things don’t appear to be all gravy with his former business
partners the R squared…X doesn’t shout’em out once yet the
messages he spits are coded…say what you say…Ruff Ryders imprint
is present on the packaging…look for X on an extensive Canadian tour
kicking off in March…if he’s about reclaiming the streets he’s
gonna have to do it block by block…
DJ Kay Slay f/ Nas, Baby, Foxy & Amerie – Too Much For Me
This single
is so New York and not just because it gets fat rotation of Hot 97 (for obvious
reasons). First, the sound of the beat is so old school classic break; if
it was played between ‘Sandworms’, and ‘Apache’, you
might not even suspect this was made in the modern era. Secondly, the beef
concerning the video is almost as huge as the song right now. Kay Slay is
calling Nas a snake for not showing up to the video shoot, it’s just
mad drama from the Drama King, DJ Kay Slay. The joint is tight on the sound,
Nas sounds a bit closer to inspired than usual, Amerie sound eighties perfect
like you can almost see the nipples pokin’ out of the chorus, Foxy sounds
Inga, and Baby remains one of the nicest drug dealers on the mic. Kay Slay
really chose a dope sound to bring back that ‘80s feel on his cut, Too
Much For Me really rocks the body
