Part 9

Stephanie crossed her legs Indian Style and cleared her throat, “As you know, in the dream, I died.”

“How would you know what happened in my dream?” Nick asked crossing his arms.

Stephanie glared at him, “Would you please just let me finish.” Nick shrugged and Stephanie thought for a minute, “I don’t know how to explain this.”

“Well, just try,” Nick grumbled

“Alright, alright, sheesh,” She rolled her eyes, “That dream, wasn’t a dream.”

Nick threw his arms up in the air, “Oh that’s just great, like I wasn’t confused already.”

“Would you PULEASE let me finish!” Stephanie shrieked

“Well, hurry up!” Nick yelled back

“Stop yelling at me!”

“Me? You stop yelling at me!”

“Shut up Nick or I’m going home!”

“Fine!”

“Fine!” Stephanie yelled. They both sat their for several minutes, neither one of them said anything. Finally Stephanie cleared her throat again, “May I continue?”

“Nobody’s stopping you,” Nick mumbled

“Everything that happened, really did happen.”

“How is that possible?” Nick asked

“Okay, when I died, I couldn’t leave because I had some ‘unfinished business’ you could say. I was given a choice, I could either come back and finish it, or leave it undone. The only catch was if I came back, I wouldn’t exist.”

Nick interrupted, “Let me get this straight, you died, and you had unfinished business. So, you chose to come back and finish it, except that the world went on as if you never existed. Wouldn’t that dissolve your unfinished business?”

“Well, you have a point. The problem was the person who I had the unfinished business with would remember some things.”

Stephanie stopped and waited as the information sunk in. Nick was looking at her, and then his expression changed, “You mean, I’m the unfinished business?”

“In a way, but let me finish before I go explaining that. If I came back, I could not interfere in my friend’s lives. I could only be sure they were all happy.”

“So, where did Jessie and Courtney come from?” Nick asked

“I don’t know, they came into the picture somehow because I didn’t exist,” Stephanie answered

“Oh, I get it. I didn’t know you, so, Brian couldn’t have known Megan. So, he met Courtney. I get it, but I can’t remember how Jessie came in.”

The both sat there and thought really hard, “I know!” Stephanie finally said, “Laura and Kevin were meant to be, so, if I couldn’t introduce them, someone else had too!”

“Yeah, that works!” Nick said, “Hey, but why did Brian and Megan not end up together?”

“Well, because they are not meant to be.”

“Oh. Well, what about A.J.?”

Stephanie didn’t say anything, “I don’t know who he is suppose to be with.”

“So, who do I end up with?”

“Okay, so, I came back to fix everything.”

“Answer the question!”

“Nope, sorry, I can’t.”

“You are so cruel.”

“Yes, I know sweetie, but that is life.”

“So, are you actually dead, or alive, or what?”

“She’s alive,” came a deep voice. The both turned and looked at the dark figure that appeared in the doorway.

“What the..” Nick just stared

“Why do you always have to do that?!” Stephanie shrieked

“Why did you tell him?” the figure asked

“He already knew to much not to know, and if I didn’t tell him he could have done major damage if he had opened his mouth.”

Nick looked at Stephanie and then back at the figure, “Would someone mind telling me what the hell is going on around here?”

The figure vanished and Stephanie crossed her arms, “He makes me so mad!”

“Who is he?” Nick asked

“He watches what I do, and makes sure I stick to the rules,” Stephanie answered with a huff.

“You got sum splainin ta do Lucy.”

Stephanie just looked at him, “You are nuts.”

“What? You don’t like my Ricky Ricardo impression?”

“No, I don’t.”

“Well, are you going to continue with your explanation?”

“Patience is a virtue you don’t have Nickolas.”

He grinned at her, “I know.”
