The Cleveland Orchestra has hired Massimo La Rosa for the position of
principal trombone, ending a two-year search that began when Doug
Wright
left. Massimo La Rosa, of La Fenice opera house in Venice, played principal trombone with the Cleveland Orchestra as it performed the Symphony No. 2 by Johannes Brahms and Alban Berg's Chamber Concerto in May.
La Rosa's participation was the final stage of his audition. He was among 27 musicians who tried out for the post in the last two years. After La Rosa's week in Cleveland, music director Franz Welser-MOst decided to extend the job offer.
