Too much repetition of various themes are undesirable as they distract from your wardrode and may clash. These apply to sports logos, tartans, brand names, military insignias and other paraphernalia. For example, If Juan Montoya wore a Ford cap with his current driving suit, it would clash.

SPORTS LOGOS: Ideally you should only wear one item of one team such as a cap, jersey, jacket, or sweat pants but of course, someone who would wear a jersey in the first place is a total fanatic and will wear more than one item. The best advice for these folks is to limit the number of teams to one.

BRAND NAMES: Just as with sports logos, you really only want to show one brand especially if you are wearing an athletic outfit. There is a little more leeway with casual brands. You can wear a Tommy shirt with Levis but if are wearing a Tommy Jeans shirt or sweat top, you would be expected to wear Tommy jeans. You can wear a polo golf shirt, with Levi’s, and a pair of Nikes—if you wear a ball cap with this outfit it should be one of the brands that you are wearing (likely Nike). If you are wearing a Nike shirt you probably should carry on and wear Nike shoes instead of Reebok, Adidas, Fila or anything else.

TARTANS: You only really want to wear one tartan piece at a time. If you were wearing a tartan blazer you would not want to wear a tartan shirt or vest but you could get away with a tartan tie with a tartan jacket, or tartan pants or a kilt but it had better be the same tartan.

MILITARY ITEMS: Ideally you only want to wear one item of military content because most items will clash with other items. One example would be if you wore a green baret with a Royal Airforce tartan scarf, or a green shirt with an artillery logo with Black Watch tartan pants( the Black Watch and the other regiments who wear Black Watch tartan are in the infantry branch of the army). There are many other insignias, colours and, items that will clash.

If you are unsure what goes with what feel free to ask.
