Our trails are open for regular Nordic skiing and snowshoeing, and the alpine ski resort at Crabbe Mountain is only a half hour's drive away. ..... and if you want more.....

..Tay Ridge Farm is set in 600 beautiful acres of forest and meadow through which runs the picturesque Tay River, where Salmon come to spawn in the Fall. The property runs up and over a glacial esker formed during the Ice Ages, and known locally as Saddle Hill. The area is renowned among geologists and paleontologists for fossils such as Ordovician brachiopods. The woodland is part of the Acadian forest, predominantly spruce, fir and maple, with the colours reaching their peak towards the end of September. Plants include trillium, St. John's wort and some species of orchid, and among the fungi species are oyster and chantarelle mushrooms.

Local wildlife includes black bear, moose, white-tail deer, coyote, fox, bobcat, beaver, marten, raccoon, skunk, porcupine and possibly timber wolf and the elusive eastern cougar. Bird life ranges from osprey and bald eagle to grosbeak and hummingbird.

The original farm belonged to the Tait family who were granted 200 acres of crown land in the 1850s and farmed here until 1970. The present house was built in 1917, and has been restored in the spirit of the original by the present owner, who also acquired the adjacent 400 acres.
