AFTER LOOKING UP "TOPIARY"
by Claire J. Baker

My friends, you sculpt
the branches, the leaves
of your thoughts so
in concert with my branches
and leaves, nothing formal
nor stiff, only open and airy
when we meet.

Talking, walking together
we stroll a fascinating path
as if searching for Mozart
in a Salzburg palace.
It is evening.
We find him in the garden
     seated at a harpsichord
     playing a piano variation…
            twinkle, twinkle,
            little star.
