The first time I heard of them, I was 8 years old, during the winter, when I was at Sun Peaks, a ski resort near Kamloops. I was at the restaurant in the hotel, and the waitress gave me and my brother an activity sheet. There was a crossword puzzle, and one of the questions was "The home rink of the Kamloops Blazers". I asked the waitress who they were, and she was like, "What??? You've never heard of the Blazers? They're the best team in the WHL!!!" So I said, "Um...where do they play?" "The Riverside Coliseum!!!" It was in December, and the World Junior Championships were also on at that time. It was really cool because a lot of the players were from the Blazers, and the coach too, Don Hay. Ever since then I've always followed the Blazers, even though I hardly get to see them. But I hope to go to a Blazers game this year if we go to Sun Peaks!
, I realize that Brandon Convery isn't really a prospect, but he's played in less than 80 NHL games, so that's good enough. And I put the Sedins down way before the Canucks drafted them. Before it was rumoured that they might drafted them. I got lots of this info from the Canadian Hockey Association website. Also, most of these players are on this list because I've seen them play (many of them at the World Junior Championships). Some of them are on here because I've read and heard about them a lot, and seen clips of them playing on TV, and decided that they must be pretty good! This page needs a major overhaul. Coming soon, or not.
Bryan Allen
Kingston, Ontario
Oshawa Generals
Kris Beech
Sicamous, B.C.
Calgary Hitmen
As you can see, Kris is from SICAMOUS!...Anyway, I first saw him at the CHL Prospects Game, where he played great. I think he was the MVP or something too.
I followed Kris and the Hitmen whenever they were on CTV SportsNet, during the playoffs and I watched all of the Memorial Cup games too. Unfortuantely, poor kris was on the same team as Brendl, so I had the misfortune of having to see Brendl too. But anyway, Kris was drated 7th overall in 99 by the Washington Captials (yuck), and participated in the 2000 World Junior team Evalutaion Camp. He would have made the team, but got injured a week a before the tournament. :(
Nick Boynton
Etobicoke, Ontario
Ottawa 67's
Nick is a very talented player for the Ottawa 67's who won the MVP at the Memorial Cup in 1999. I think he was drafted by Washington? Or maybe that was before, because he re-entered the draft. Forgot. Help? He was drafted by Boston.
Mike Brown
Surrey, B.C.
Kamloops Blazers
Mike Brown is a Canucks prospect, the guy we got in the pavel Bure trade. I first heard about the trade on the way home from my hockey game in the car on the radio. I didn't have any clue who Mike Brown was, and when I got home, I turned on CTV SportsNet and it turned out that I had missed a lot of the Bure trade coverage. However...It was Sunday night, which meant, CHL Sunday Night on SportsNet, and what do ya know, the Blazers are playing the Pats and yes, Mike Brown is on the Blazers. So I watched that game (I happened to get very sick that day (probably caused by playing hockey even though I felt terrible), and I had a horrible fever and had recurring dreams about that game for some annoying reason). And they interviewed a very surprised but happy Mike Brown. Then they talked to Brad, who looked sad, and mumbled some stuff about how he's happy to be going to Florida blah blah blah...Poor Brad.
Brian Campbell
Strathroy, Ontario
Ottawa 67's
Brian is another excellent defenceman for the Ottawa 67's. He won a silver medal with Canada at the 1999 World Junior Championships, he also won a plethora of awards in the CHL, including: CHL player of The Year, OHL League MVP, OHL Best Defenceman, OHL Most Sportsmanlike Player, as well as being named a First Team All-Star, along with his 67's (that he captained) winning the Memorial Cup. He was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 1997.
Jonathan Cheechoo
Moose Factory, Ontario
Belleville Bulls

He's from Moose Factory! Well anyway, Jonathon's Belleville Bulls made the Memorial Cup, placing third. Unfortunately, Jonathon was injured during the tournament. He's a draft pick of the San Jose Sharks, and is trying out for the 2000 World Junior Team.
Jason Chimera
Edmonton, Alberta
Brandon Wheat Kings
I don't have too much to say about Jason, except that he was really awesome at the '99 World Juniors. He was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in 1997.
Eric Clark
Semiahmoo, B.C.
Calgary Hitmen
Yes, he is here becasue he's from Semiahmoo. He was good in the Memorial Cup, too, and he's only 16 (well, he was then).
Brandon Convery
Kingston, Ontario
Belleville Bulls
Matt Cooke
Belleville, Onatrio
Windsor Spitfires
Johan Davidsson
Jonkoping, Sweden
HV 71
Don't know too much about Johan, but he was the captain of Team Sweden at the World Junior Championships and was really good. It was either 1995 or 1996 or both...He was on the Ducks but got traded to...?
Harold Druken
St John's, Newfoundland
Plymouth Whalers
Another good Canucks draft pick that played in the World Junior Championships.
Rico Fata
Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
London Knights
Rico Fata also played for Canada at the 1999 World Juniors, and played very well too. He actually made the Calgary Flames at the start of the season, but eventually he was sent back to junior.
Brad Ference
Calgary, Alberta
Spokane Chiefs
Actually I think Brad got traded to another team in the WHL, but I don't know which team. He's an agressive defenceman (once he had 324 penalty minutes in one season!), who is know in the Panthers organization. I really liked him, I hope he does well there. In his first NHL game with the Panthers he was "accidentely" clipped by the Lightning's Vincvent Lecavalier and Brad got mad (hehe) and started wailing on Vincent and that started a huge brawl.
Brian Finley
Sault Ste. Marie, Onatrio
Barrie Colts
Brian's a great young goalie, and he backed up Roberto Luongo at the '99 World Juniors. He was the first Canadian player taken in the 1999 draft, picked by the Nashville Predators 6th overall. His favourite NHL player is Felix Potvin, and he likes baseball and fishing. His favourite arena is Harry Lumley Bayshore in his hometown of Sault Ste. Marie. He played in the CHL Top Prospects Game, and was named the 1998-99 OHL Top Goaltender as well winning a bunch of other awards and getting selected to All-Star Teams. He played for Canada at the 2000 World Junior Championships and only played in one game, the bronze medal game v.s. USA which he won in a shootout! Yay!
Simon Gagné
Québec City, Québec
Québec Remparts
If you didn't watch the '99 World Junior Championships, you missed a lot. Simon played really well, once scoring 4 goals in one game (against Kazakhstan), tying a record for most goals in one game at the World Juniors set by Mario Lemieux. Simon is a draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers, like his Québec teammate Maxime Ouellet. He says his favourite NHL player is Joe Sakic, and enjoys golf and watching movies. His favourite arena to play in is the Colisée in Québec. His first car was a Ford Escort GT. Has had a great season with the Flyers.
Jean Giguere (formerly Jean-Sebastien, which I thought sounded cooler)
Montréal, Québec
Halifax Mooseheads
Definetely the Calgary Flames top prospect. He should be helped by the presence of Grant Fuhr. Why did he take away the Sebastien?
Josh Holden
Calgary, Alberta
Regina Pats
Jamie Lundmark
Edmonton, Alberta
Moose Jaw Warriors
I saw Jamie play in the CHL Prospects Game, as well as a Warriors game. He's a really good player. Unfortunatly, he was drafted by the new york rangers. Now he's on the same team as Brendl! Well, Jamie attended the 2000 Junior Team tryout, and I'm sure he'll make it. His favourite NHL team and player are Colorado and Peter Forsberg. He says if he wasn't a hockey player he'd probably be a player agent. Played for the bronze-medal winning Team Canada at the 2000 World Juniors. Was awesome! Scored on a penalty shot against his Slovakian Warrors teammate, along with many other goals as he was one of Canada's leading scorers.
Roberto Luongo
St-Leonard, Québec
Acadie-Bathurtst Titan
As most know, Roberto is an awesome goalie, and a top prospect for the New York Islanders. In fact, he was the highest drafted goalie in NHL history, being selected 4th overall by the Isles in 1997. He tended goal for Team Canada at the 1998 and 1999 World Junior Championships. You had to feel sorry for him when Artem Churbarov (a Canucks pick, the only reason I know his name) of Russia scored in overtime in the gold medal final. His tears represented the feelings of the entire team, heartbreak. But that's okay, because he stood on his head the whole tournament and as named top goalie. His Acadie-Bathurst Titan made the Memorial Cup in 1999, but were elimintaed, as was his Val d'Or (I think!) team in 1998. Despite these losses, Roberto is expected to become a top NHL goalie over time, especially with Felix Potvin guiding him on Long Island.
Adam Mair
Hamilton, Ontario
Owen Sound Platers
Adam was named the bets forward at the 1999 World Junior Championships. Since his Platers were eliminated from playoff contention, the Toronto Maple Leafs called him up during the Pittsburgh series, and Adam stepped in and didn't look out of place.
Derek MacKenzie
Sudbury, Ontario
Sudbury Wolves
Put him here 'cause he's Shannon's cousin. Never seen him play, but I'm sure he's good, as he was selected to participate in the 2000 Junior Team evaluation camp. He was drafted by Atlanta in 1999. He says his favourite NHL team and player are the Red Wings and Mike Peca. He likes golf and playing the guitar, and his favourite arena is in Kitchener. His dad Ken was an assistant coach of the Sudbury Wolves (used to coach Brandon Convery!:)
Steve McCarthy
Trail, B.C.
Kootenay Ice
Good ol' B.C. boy Steve was drafted 23rd overall by Chicago in 1999. I saw him play in the 1999 Top Prospects game. He picks Burnaby Joe Sakic as his favourite NHL player. He likes fishing and baseball, and his favourite arena is in Cranbrook. Played for the bronze winning Team Canada at the 2000 World Juniors and played well, and lost a few teeth crashing into the cross bar. :(
Brendan Morrison
Pitt Meadows, B.C.
U of Michigan Wolverines
Brendan is a Hobey Baker award winner, and played on the U of M championship team with Billy Mucklat. He's a prospect of the Devils.
Maxime Ouellet
Beauport, Québec
Québec Remparts
Maxime played in the Top Prospects Game, and he really impressed me. He was named Player of the Game for Team Orr. He was drafted 22nd overall by Philly, joining his Remparts teammate Simon Gagné. He says his favourite NHL players is Patrick Roy, and likes watching movies and golf. He likes to vacation in Florida, and his favourite arena is the Colisée de Québec. And his first car was a CRV. Was FANTASTIC at the 2000 World Juniors and was named Best Goaltender and won the bronze even though he wasn't in net for that one game (see Brian Finley).
*Matt Pettinger
Victoria, B.C.
Calgary Hitmen
B.C. Boy! He played for Canada @ the 2000 World Juniors and won bronze. After playing for the bad U of Denver team he left university and joined the Hitmen. Kick ass! He played in the CHL Top Prospects game, scored a goal, and is rated about mid-first round for the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. REALLY hope the Canucks draft him. 2000-7-13 URG!!!!! How did I know this would happen? Matt was drafted by Washington :( Well at least he's with Kris Beech...I hope they both get traded to the Canucks!
Taylor Pyatt
Thunder Bay, Ontario
Sudbury Wolves
I haven't seen Taylor Pyatt play yet, but I've heard nothing but good things about him. He's a 6'3 220 pound left winger. He was drafted 8th overall by the New York Islanders in the 1999 draft. I saw him on Off The Record, and he's a really cool guy as well as an awesome player. His favourite NHL team and player is Mark Messier (Canucks!) and the Oilers. He likes basketball and fishing, and his favourite arena is Kitchener. His first car was a Mazda. Taylor tried out for the 2000 World Junior Team. Hopefully he'll make it! He didn't :( I think he might have been injured. I don't remember.
*Brandon Reid
Kirkland, Québec
Halifax Mooseheads
Brandon was AWESOME at the 2000 World Juniors with bronze medal winning Team Canada, he was the leading scorer. He's small but VERY quick and had good hands. Is rated about 3rd or 4th round for the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. Hope the Canucks get him. 2000-7-13 Yes, the Canucks drafted Brandon! In the 7th round! Whatever, I'm happy.
Brad Richards
Murray Harbour, Price Edward Island
Rimouski Oceanic
Brad Richards is one of those non-French guys who played in the QMJHL. I saw him play in the Q All-Star Game. He was drafted 64th overall in the 3rd round by Tampa Bay in 1998, overshawdowed by his former Rimouski teammate Vincent Lecavalier. His favourite NHLer is Paul Kariya, and he likes golf, and training. His favourite arean is Rimouski's, and he likes to vacation in the Carribean. And his first car was a Ford Thunderbird. He seems to get more assists than goals (in 98-99, 39 goals and 92 assists for 131 points) indicating that he's a great playmaker! Richards is amazing. He led the Q in scoring and played for Canada @ the 2000 WJC and won bronze.
Peter Schaefer
Yellowgrass, Saskatchewan
Brandon Wheat Kings
Daniel Sedin
Ornskoldsvik, Sweden
MoDo
Don't have much to say about Mr. Sedin, except there's lots of hype around him, and that he didn't play too well against Canada at the 1999 World Juniors. He better be good!!! They traded MY Bryan McCabe to help get him!
Henrik Sedin
Ornskoldsvik, Sweden
MoDo
Likewise.
Jason Spezza
Brampton, Ontario
Missasauga Ice Dogs
I haven't seen so much hype over a 15 (now 16) year old before. They say he's the next Gretzky, but I think those are lofty expectations. For now, he has to help Don Cherry's Missasauga Ice Dogs win more than four games! Well seen him play about a thousand times now and he's great.I have about a million good things to say about him. He's an awesome player. Anyway he won a bronze medal with Team Canada at the 2000 World Junior Championships at only age 16. He scored a goal, making him the youngest player ever to record a goal at the tournament. He's the second youngest to play, behind felow 2000 teammate Jay Bouwmeester. He played in the OHL All-Star Game. But the Ice Dogs only won 6 games. :(
Charlie Stephens
Nilestown, Ontario
Guelph Storm
Okay so I've never seen Charlie play. And no he isn't on here because I heard he's good. I was watching TV a while ago, and saw an Esquire commercial come on, with this guy skating up saying, "Charlie Stephens, Esquire." I had no idea who he was. Months later, I bought the ‘99 Draft Preview, and I was amazed to discover that he was draft eligible. Well I had to put him on my prospects list. :) He was drafted by um...Washington, I think.
Brad Stuart
Rocky Mountain House, Alberta
Calgary Hitmen
Excellent defenceman that the Canucks might have drafted in '98, but the Sharks took him first. But I think they wanted Bryan Allen anyway. He played in the 1999 World Juniors, like so many of these guys. He started the season as the captain of the Regina Pats, but was traded to Calgary. The Hitmen went all the way to the Memorial Cup final, but he suffered a concussion and didn't play much. Good season with the Sharks! I hate the Sharks.
Daniel Tkaczuk
Mississauga, Ontario
Barrie Colts
Daniel played amazingly at the World Juniors in 1999, and he was also on the 1998 team. A future star, drafted by the Calgary Flames.
Kevin Weekes
Toronto, Ontario
Owen Sound Platers
Kevin Weekes is the Canucks "goalie of the future" according to Brian Burke, and come on, you gotta feel sorry for the guy. Before the 1999-2000 season, he hasn't won a game in the NHL yet! Hope he wins soon! He'll be helped by Andy Moog, the new goalie consultant for the Canucks. He won his first NHL on the first game of the season against the stupid rangers, 2-1 at home. His first shutout was also against the stupid rangers in new york, 3-0. Peter Schaefer had 3 points. Now Weeksie's on the New York Islanders with Billy Muckalt, Davie Scatchard and Roberto Luongo. And later Eric Brewer and Taylor Pyatt. And now Tim Connolly. I
