Chapter 14

The front room was silent as the three waited for Litt to come home. Bill had immediately made his way back to the house after his wife had called, and after Brian had dropped off his bag at his house, he had come straight over to tell Tracy about Litt. She in turn relayed what information she had found, and Brian had to read it for himself to believe it.

Staring out the window, he sighed. He remembered the first day he had met her. She had seemed slightly timid at first, but quickly opened up and was willing to have a good time. He missed that. And he knew that there must be a way to bring that side of her back to the forefront again. He was aroused out of his thoughts suddenly, when the door slowly opened.

To their shock and surprise, there Litt stood, with blood on her face and stained on her clothes. She looked like hell, but then again, they had never seen her like that before. They didn't know.

"Litt..." Tracy breathed.

She looked at them all meekly, then avoided eye contact. Seeing their shocked faces made her want to cry, but she held it in. Just like everything else. As she began to walk towards the stairs, she mumbled, "I know, I know. It's over."

Their responding silence led her to believe that she could flee to her room, but Brian's voice stopped her. "Litt, come here," he spoke softly.

She stopped in her tracks at the sound of his voice, but didn't turn around. She bowed her head and cringed. "I don't want to talk about it. I don't want to talk about anything."

"Litt, please!" Tracy begged. "I know it was wrong, but I found this," she held up a piece of paper.

Litt felt a chill run down her spine, and she slowly turned to face them. From that distance she couldn't really tell what it was, but from the expressions on their faces, she could make a guess. Part of her was angry that she had gone through her stuff, but another part was filled with despair, begging for help.

"We want to help you," Tracy continued. "But you need to open up before anything can be done."

Litt glanced at the paper once more, then she said, "Mike's on his way, isn't he?"

Bill nodded slowly. "He'll be here in a few hours."

Without looking at Brian, she whispered, "Then I guess there's nothing more to discuss until he gets here." With that she turned around once more and made her way slowly, painfully up the stairs.

Brian put his head in his hands, feeling helpless. He knew there was nothing he could do to help her; she wouldn't let him.

Tracy got up and left the room, unable to control her emotions. Bill sighed as he watched her leave. Looking over at Brian, he suggested quietly, "I think maybe you should go home now. There's nothing more any of us can do."

Brian nodded, with his head still in his hands. He stood up and walked out of the house, wondering if he'd ever see her again.

Few hours later- "Litt!" Tracy called up the stairs. "You can come down now, he's here!"

Litt's room was dark. The curtains were closed and the lights were off. The floor was covered with clothes and CDs, and she couldn't close her closet even if she wanted to. The sheet and comforter had fallen off her bed, and were now in a heap on the floor. Litt slowly loosened her grip on the pillow she was hugging, and took her time sitting up. The blood from her face was smeared onto the white pillow cover, and the gash on her leg had left a huge red stain on the bed.

She winced as she stood up, and she was surprised that she hadn't gotten used to the feeling of pain yet. "I'm coming," she muttered to herself as she stumbled towards the door. She tripped over her backpack and almost ran smack into the wall. Shit, she thought, rubbing her elbow.

"Litt?" Tracy called worriedly. "Are you ok?"

"Just peachy," she grumbled, walking out into the hallway.

When Tracy finally saw her at the top of the stairs, she relaxed slightly, and walked back into the family room. Litt slowly followed after, and when she arrived at the doorway, everyone present became silent. Mike, Bill and Tracy were there; Tess and Jonathan were in their rooms.

Mike stood up when he saw her, a concerned expression on his face. "Litt, what happened?"

She looked down at herself, then slowly brought her head back up to face him. "Got into a fight," she muttered simply. Leaning against the doorframe, she crossed her arms.

Mike rubbed his eyes and looked at her sadly. Tracy and Bill had informed him of everything, and he knew what he had to do. "Litt, I think that it would be best...if you came with me. My word is my word...and you screwed up," he spoke the words slowly, looking her straight in the eye.

She nodded and sighed. "Yeah, I figured."

"I think it might help you in more ways than one," he continued.

Litt knew that had been coming. At the moment she was too weak and light headed to object to anything, so she began to walk back towards the stairs.

"Where are you going?" he asked.

"I'm gonna get some sleep...It's the only peaceful time I get," she spoke with no feeling in her voice.

Mike nodded to himself. "Alright, we're leaving tomorrow, so be ready."
