Chapter 4
Heading to my new job, in my bug, early Monday morning I was
still buggin about the Kevin thing. I was trying to decide whether I should call him or not.
"I'm such a chicken!" I exclaimed out loud.
I reached into my orange Gap backpack and pulled out my phone and
Kevin's number. I knew that I had to do something about the situation,
or I would never see this guy again.
*Ring *Ring *Ring *Ri..
" This is Kev." the familiar voice on the other line said.
" Hi, this is Erin. Remember me, from New York . . ."
" Yes, of course, how could I forget?" he answered.
" Good, I hoped that you wouldn't."
" So what are you up to?" He asked.
" Just heading to work, nothing to exciting going on at the moment."
"Wait, you already have a job? Didn't you just get back from
a 2 year run on Broadway?" He implied.
" When I wrote a letter to the performance art committee at University
of San Francisco telling them that I would be returning, and asking
for a written reference for a job, they gave me one as a professor." I explained.
" Wow. That sounds good." * Pause * "Can I call you back? I have
something I really have to get to."
" Yeah, sure. I'm sitting in the parking lot at the University
anyway; I should probably go in. Do you want my number?"
" I have it on the Caller Reference, on my phone."
" Sounds good. Bye."
" Bye. I promise I'll call."
I hung up my phone and placed it back in my bag, leaned my head
back on the headrest and let out a sigh.
" I can not get involved with this guy." I said loudly as I got
out of my car. A pair of students crossed my path just in time to hear.
" My day's starting out with a bang." I said, to myself this time.
I took a deep breath and marched toward the doors of the building
where I would be teaching. When I got to the door I straitened
my newly pressed yellow linen shirt and lavender skirt, opened the
door, and waltzed in with a bounce in my step.
