Chapter 3
I walked briskly down the corridor connecting the airplane and the
airport. As I walked out of the gate I spotted my family standing in a row:
my brother Dalin, mom, dad, my big sister Normandie, and my little sister
Alex. After about 10 minutes of hugging we headed down the terminal to get
my luggage.
“ You won’t believe who I met on the way to the airport in New York.” I
said quietly in Alex’s ear after we had picked up my duffel and garment bag.
“Who?” She asked with a smile on her face.
“ Let’s just say that you sent me a picture of him via e-mail. Oh that
reminds me, dad,” I told my dad, “ there is a new virus going around the
internet, be sure not to open any mail that you don’t know where it’s from.”
“Ok. Thanx.” He retorted.
We made our way out to my mom’s white Ford Focus and my orange VW
Bug, which my Normandy had driven here just so I could drive it home. I
leaned down and kissed the hood, I hadn’t seen it in forever.
“Bugs, baby!”, I exclaimed lovingly to my car, “ hey Al,” I looked up at
my sister, “ want to come spend the night @ my apartment and help me
unpack?”
“ You know I do,” she said, already opening the passenger door.
I went to the trunk and flung my orange Nike bag into it, and closed it
with an enthusiastic slam.
“ Let’s ride! See ya tomorrow guys,” I said hugging Dalin, Normandy, mom
and dad.
“ Bye girls! Wear your seatbelts, ” mom emphasized.
Inside the car I popped in my new Bbmak CD and we jammed to their new
single “Back Here”. I was so happy to be home, tears welled up in my eyes
as we turned onto the freeway heading to my new downtown apartment.
“ I’m glad you’re home,” Alex said.
“ Me too!”
