Instrument: Drums A self-proclaimed super-genius, Matt spent many years in his youth with the Drum & Bugle Corps performing classical music pieces. His exquisite and twisted percussile orchestrations are influenced by too many twilight hours spent in front of a computer monitor. Described as having a very obsessive personality, Spag is very much inspired by artists and painters from the 40's and 50's. Matt is a big industrial fan of the 80's and his all time favourite band is Skinny Puppy. "Venus Access by Skinny Puppy, which really blew my mind, the energy and the spirit of it were so unlike a lot of the electronic music that was going on at the time." Other influences include: "Nail, by Scrapping Foetus Off The Wheel, probably my all time favorite album, and Killing Technology by Voivod." Quiry Fact: A friend of the band gave Spag his nickname. Age: "32, closing on 33." Marital status: "Happily divorced." From: "Born in Rockford, Illinios, and I grew up in Peoria, Illinios, although I'm actually homeless right at the moment!" Other than your instrument, what do you bring to the band? "A general sense of euphoria and a sense of claustrophobia simultaneously." What was the first record you bought? "Freese Frame. What do you mean you've never heard of them? They were huge! My first metal album was 'Screaming For Vengeance' by Judas Priest." What was the first concert you went to? "Charley Daniel's band, but one of my first major shows was Prince on the 'Purple Rain' tour." What is your idea of hell? "We're probably in it right now. I don't believe in things like that, there is no good and evil, heaven and hell. So hell for me would be a way to describe a state of unpleasantness, and day to day life can be that way. Hell? Hell is marriage!" What was your first ever job? "I worked in an ice-cream parlour." What is your favourite film? "2001: A Space Odessey." What is your favourite comic? ""I was a real big Faust fan, and I like the Dark Horse comics such as Sin City." When fame becomes too much for you and you have to fake your own death, what will be the elaborate story that appears in the papers? "This has been on my mind lately, maybe it's all these interviews about our make-up! OK, I'd like to accidentally die in a staged magical act. I'd do some big publicity stunt where I bury myself for 24 hours in front of the White House and die doing it." | |
