M.L.R. is a punk-rock/hard-rock band that started when our band teacher asked if we wanted to A) play a concert with the seventh graders or B) play the concert along and do our own acts to fill time. We all chose B, because we didn't want them ruining our performance and we thought it'd be fun to have other acts. After discussing it for awhile, Dan got the music for "Five Iron Frenzy - Dandelions" and got everyone together we needed for it.

Eventually, after practicing seperatly, the idea of playing it seemed to die. I'm still not exactly sure what happened. One day we we're getting together to practice, Ben - Trombone, Dan, Mike, and Jamie. Nathan couldn't make it, but then Ben said he wasn't going to come. At "practice" we just fooled around, and got the idea that we could play "Switchfoot - Meant To Live" in the concert.

After awhile of practicing both, we had another "practice" to decide what to play, this time with Mike, Nathan, Dan, and Jamie. Ben quit, so it was just us. Mike had the job of playing the vocal part on keyboard. After a few hours of goofing off, and then after much deliberation(2 seconds or so) we decided to, well actually just said we were going to, play "Meant To Live".

After practicing seperatly for a few weeks, Jamie asked our band teacher if he could bring in his guitar(because he plays trumpet at school) to practice on our 10-minute break at stage band. He agreed, so he brought it in. Dan was at National Junior Honor Society, so Mike, Nathan, and Jamie played. The keyboard was too quiet, so it was basically just Jamie and Nathan. It didnt sound right because of the amp and Jamie needs his pedal, but it was still ok, and everyone said they liked it. Mr. Kurr said "ok, you're in" and "it's obvious you're very well rehearsed." We started laughing, because it was our first time playing together.

The next day, in Language class, Nathan and Jamie started discussing band names for the concert, just to introduces ourselves as. They thought for awhile, then made a list

  • The Exponents

  • M.L.R.
  • 3A
  • Lost Opportunities
  • British Mafia

  • After making the list, Nathan said how we could make an album and have photo shoots. So now, instead of just getting a name for the concert, we were getting one for our new band. That night there was a dance, so Jamie brought the list to have people vote. It was decided that the first one to ten would be our name, and we asked a few teachers and a lot of kids. M.L.R. won, after about 50 votes and about an hour, so that became our name.

So now, what started out as a group to have some fun at a school band concert, became Nathan, Jamie, Mike, and Dan, in a band now known as M.L.R.
