We are really sorry to inform everyone that the show with the
Misfits on January 12th, 2001 in NYC has been canceled. Here is
the info as it appears on the official Misfits website:
Sorry fiends but the World-WWF NY has informed us that despite an
overwhelming response, the venue had to cancel the
show due to "legal trouble". Originally the show had been scheduled
for Dec. 29th 2000 but was pushed forward to Jan 12th 2001 in order
to allow the venue time to make renovations requested by
the State Fire Marshall. This had been taken care of and tickets
for the Jan 12th show went on sale the morning of Friday Dec 15th.
Due to unexpected legal complications, the venue had no choice but
to cancel the show later that same afternoon. Apparently the response
from fiends was so overwhelming that the venue had already been
considering adding a second date to accommodate the large demand
for tickets. Unfortunately, at this time, there will be no show
at all. The World-WWF have sincerely apologized to the Misfits,
Joey and Marky Ramone, the Independents and everyone else involved
for the inconvenience but they must contend with complications relating
to a prior contractual obligation. Further, The World-WWF have asked
that we extend their apologies to fiends everywhere planning to
attend the show. The venue is just as disappointed as we are. Should
we get any further information or should this situation change it
will be posted here.
Jerry had this to say on the situation: "We're all really disappointed
that we couldn't play the NY gig and once again the show was canceled
due to circumstances beyond our control. Rehearsals with Joey and
Marky Ramone were already under way and we were all really pumped.
This would have been the final show of the "Famous Monsters" U.S.
tour cycle, which is now over. As planned, we are heading over to
Japan in early 2001 and the 25th Anniversary is right around the
corner. If circumstances don't allow a NY gig to be scheduled sooner,
we plan to kick off the 25th Anniversary in NYC. A lot of great
stuff is in the works."
