Wow! We haven't updated this site in almost six months! Lots of news to report on The Honkey frontline... The Saltines are no more. Yes, sad but true, at least for now, The Honkeys have decided to concentrate on the music rather than the stage show. This doesn't, however, mean that they'll never be back. In fact, Jessie has made a few "guest appearances" on stage recently. Also, a couple of months ago the Edge Brothers (Jovian and Micah) both left the band for greener pastures. We wish them lots of success in their future projects. Replacing Jovian on drums is Dave Devine, better known for his playing with Columbia/St. Louis garage punk greats, The Cripplers! It's not apparent at this point if Dave will be a permanent Honkey, or just a fill-in until Jeff & Cullen find a more suitable bandmate (depends a lot on the status of The Cripplers, too, which is sort of up in the air at this point), but in the meantime, I'm sure we'll be seeing lots more of Dave. As for Micah, I don't believe you'll be seeing a new keyboardist anytime soon, but you MAY notice an additional guitarist or saxophonist added in the upcoming months. Stay tuned... The Honkeys CD is currently getting a royal design treatment by Mark Wightman of Phoenix Creative Co. The boys are looking for a couple of hot girlie-girls that aren't shy who would like to pose for a few shots to be included in the design. You interested? Let them know! Oh, and the CD is also getting mastered as we speak. No idea on a release date as of yet.
7/23/00: There's a NEW SALTINE in the house! Yes, sadly, Catherine has departed for greener pastures, but we all would like to welcome the newest go-go dancin' Saltine, um, er... what's her name again, guys?
7/1/00: The Honkeys finally have a REAL MANAGER! Yep, and hopefully for GOOD this time! It's Stab's sister (keepin' it in the family, just like good Honkeys should!), Becky McGrane, and if there's anything you'd like to quiz her about, she's already done her homework, punk, so don't be shy... shoot her an email already!
6/23/00: We just recently returned from a harrowing journey into the bowels of Alabama to do some recording at the infamous Zero Return Studios (where Man Or Astro-Man? recorded their 11+ LPs) and the songs from this session will be available on a forthcoming CD, so be on the lookout!
5/7/00: All right, fuckers! Our first 7" has just been released on Trouble In River City Records. The songs are "Tossage" b/w "Tell 'Em Large Marge Sent Ya." Twat's that you say? You don't have one? Repeat after me... "I suck." Good, now go out and BUY ONE, ya schmuck! We've got enough sucky people around here! "Tell 'Em Large Marge Sent Ya" is also included on the Landlocked & Loaded! compilation CD, also on TIRC Records. And of course, no one in their right mind should have to explain to you how much you suck if you don't own this slab of primal midwestern rock'n'roll! To order your own copy send check or money order for $12 (ppd.) payable to Jeff Kopp and mail to 4062 Humphrey, St. Louis, MO 63116.
5/1/00: The Honkeys were nominated for best rockabilly/surf/instrumental band in this year's SLAMMIES sponsored by The Riverfront Times. The award, however, went to veteran St. Louis psychobilly band, The Trip Daddys (deservedly so, we might add!). But the band felt honored to even be nominated for this award.
3/15/00: Read this great article about us by Randall Roberts in the latest issue of the Riverfront Times! |
