The History of Speedbump
It all began one winter afternoon in the band room of our local high school, where all four present members of Speedbump recieve our education. Singer and guitarist, Joe Antonick, was playing a simple chord progression on his guitar while he was waiting for concert band practise to begin. Drummer, Michael Fredericks, walked in and picked up a bass guitar and proceded to jam with Joe on the simple chord progression. Alen Clem, a fellow drummer friend of Michael's sat down at the school drum kit and started playing along as well. At this time, Eric Sproul, a trumpet player in grade 12 was warming up on his trumpet next to Joe, when Michael quickly suggested that he play a trumpet solo to the progression they were still playing. He put on a trumpet mute and played a totally hip solo. As soon as the song ended, Joe and Mike knew that they had found the sound that they wanted for the band they had been trying to form for a over a year.
The recruiting had to begin. Joe was going to sing and do the guitar. Michael, (who is a far better drummer than bass player), was moved back to his drumset which left an opening for a bass player. Unfortuneatly, Joe and Mike didn't know any available bass players that were half decent. So they decided to make one. A good friend of Joe and Mike, Ryan Muise, was in the process of learning how to play guitar. They decided they would take him in as another guitarist, but quickly realized his talents were far superior in bass. He became the band's bassist. They jammed and the sound was good. But it still wasn't the sound they had in mind from that day in the band room with the trumpet.
