Outlaw Recordz sign Nuttso - April 4th
Outlaw Recordz have signed Bay Area rapper Nuttso. Nuttso will release a album on Outlaw records this year called The Movie. Nuttso is a member of the group Street Thugs who released an album in 1996 called Not To Be Fu-ked With. Nuttso also released a solo album only on tape called The Betrayal. Nuttso did some songs with 2Pac including Words 2 My Firstborn, Runnin On E and Dump or Die.

Above The Law's Total K'oss Pleads Guilty - February 27th
Above The Law group member Anthony Gregory Stewart, 32 and better known in rap as Total K-Oss, pleaded guilty Friday (February 22) to drug and child-endangerment charges.

Stewart was arrested a year ago after Riverside, California police found rock cocaine in his Sport Utility Vehicle. He plead guilty to possessing rock cocaine for sale, transporting the drug and endangering his girlfriends two children. His girlfriend, Arnika Harris, 29, pleaded guilty to two counts of child endangerment. She entered a plea and will serve 120 days in jail on the weekends and her drug charges will be dismissed. K-Oss isn't getting off so easy- he is facing nine years in prison when he is sentenced April 12th.

Court transcripts gave the following account:
Acting on an informant's tip, Riverside police stopped Stewart's sport utility vehicle in the area of Highway 91 and La Sierra Avenue on Feb. 15, 2001. Officers found about 3 ounces of rock cocaine in a plastic bag under the driver's seat. Police then went to the defendants' apartment in Corona, where they found 4.2 pounds of rock cocaine in a backpack, along with drug paraphernalia, cash and guns. Riverside police said the seizure was one of the department's largest seizures.

During the police search, Harris' two young children were asleep in the apartment. The presence of guns and drugs resulted in the child-endangerment charges. Several gold records and recording equipment also were inside the apartment.

Above The Law are one of the pioneers of West Coast rap, releasing their first classic album Living Like Hustlers on Ruthless Records, with all of the production done by Dr. Dre. The group recently signed to Suge Knight's Tha Row records and are preparing to release their 5th album Diary of a Drug Dealer.

Too Short Gets Uncensored On New Video - December 21st
After releasing his 14th album, Chase The Cat, in November, Too Short is making his way towards home video. Short Dog has made available, Too Short Uncensored: Nationwide Behind The Scenes (The Freaky Version), a behind the scenes look at the life of the rapper. The video/DVD features interviews, live footage and uncensored music videos too hot for MTV or BET. The DVD also contains bonus footage plus the trailer to the upcoming film, T*tty City. The video is currently available at Maven Entertainment.

Eazy E - Godfather Of Gangsta Rap EP - December 20th
Previously unreleased music from Eazy E will be released on March 26 to coincide with the seven-year anniversary of his death. An eight-song EP titled Godfather of Gangsta Rap — with music recorded between late 1994 and a little before his death in 1995 — will accompany the DVD "Impact of a Legend" when it hits stores.

According to Ruthless Records, the label Eazy founded and which is now run by his widow, Tomica Woods-Wright, the EP features appearances by newcomers Paperboy & Flossmode and has production by Rhythm D. In addition to a documentary, songs lyrics, a full discography and 10 videos including "Straight Outta Compton" and "We Want Eazy," the "Impact of a Legend" DVD features a PC-compatible video game called "Hittin' Switches."In the game, the player takes on the persona of Eazy-E and is living a day in his life. In addition to fixing up a low rider with a booming system, rims and hydraulics to make the ride bounce, the player may come across some rivals and engage in a shootout.

Ruthless said it took so long to release the Eazy material because the label has just resolved litigation with Eazy's former business partner and manager, Jerry Heller, over the rights to his music. Godfather of Gangsta Rap track list, according to Ruthless:

Ice Cube - November 27th
Ice Cube told Rolling Stone, that no complete songs have been laid down for the N.W.A reunion album, Not These Niggaz Again.

"We're up against two things: We don't have a lot of time, and we have to do a great record. That doesn't compute. There are a lot of expectations with that record, and if we don't have time to meet those expectations, it's better not to do it than to go in and half-ass it. We made a lot of progress on the Up in Smoke Tour, gellin' back together and understanding how we've grown, but you know, I'm doin' a movie here, they're doin' their movies. It's really on Dre. If he ain't puttin' the tracks together, I really ain't down to rap on nobody else's tracks. He's the quarterback," Cube told Rolling Stone.

Ice Cube also said recently that after his Priority Records release, Greatest Hits hits due for release on December 4th, he will be looking for another label.

"It's time for me to go with a bigger label and do the kinds of things my career deserves," Cube said in an upcoming issue of Billboard. "When you've been with an indie and see the money that goes into an Interscope or a Def Jam, you realize there's no way to compete in terms of spending those kinds of dollars."

Ice Cube is also finishing up the third installment to the Friday series with "Friday After Next," It is due for a Thanksgiving 2002 release.
