Welcome to my Writing Links

Here is a list of valuable links for writers of all stripes, in no particular order. I have tried to include the sites that I have found personally useful. If you have a useful link you would like to see added to this page, please contact Catt Foy at cattfoy@earthlink.net.

Writers Groups & Rings

HTML Writer's Guild - THE place for beginners or advanced HTML writers to find information, resources, and instruction.

TravelWriters.com - A resource for and listing of travel writers, including writers guidelines for numerous travel publications. Recently merged with Marco Polo travel magazine. My own travel page is posted here at www.travelwriters.com/cattfoy.

Free Writing Mailing Lists

Writers Page email newsletter filled with leads, markets, and advice. Simply place "subscribe" in the subject line.

WritersWeekly.Com - The highest circulation freelance writing ezine in the world. Bi-monthly print and e-zine on markets and guidelines. Email subscription free. Free mailing list. Excellent source!

Research, Resources & Reference

The Phone Company - Free FAXing anywhere in the world - in English, German or Italian.

U.S. Copyright Office - learn about copyrights, download forms, protect your work.

The Writers BBS - Chat rooms, discussion forums, personal ads, games, links, etc.

Writers Net - Internet resource for writers, editors, publishers and agents. Add your name and credentials.

Free Internet Encyclopedia - While neither complete nor perfect, this site is making a valid effort to provide encyclopedic reference links. Really useful when standard search-engines turn up nothing helpful.

iTools Research - Immediate access to: dictionaries, rhyming dictionary, thesaurus, translator service, anagrams, acronyms, biographies, bible references, quotations, maps, phone books, facts, currency conversion, stock quotes, zip codes, UPS and FEDEX tracking, and email discussion groups (whew!), plus links to MORE!

Internet Public Library - Just what it sounds like - includes online periodicals, reference section, etc.

The Library of Congress - really needs no description.

BabyNames.Com - all those names and their meanings are right here.

R.R. Bowker - The official U.S. agency for assigning ISBNs and North America's leading provider of bibliographic information. Information on International Standard Book Numbers - what they are, how to get one.

Idea Marketers - A good place to get exposure - post your articles free for potential publishers to peruse.

Inter-Tran - Internet translator translates words, phrases, even web pages! 25 different languages makes this a very useful tool, even if machine translation is not intuitive and often awkward. It still helps to read those non-English web sites, or decipher a foriegn phrase.

The Curmudgeon's Stylebook - Not exactly the AP stylebook (maybe better!), but a good source of sound advice nevertheless. Would-be writers: use it, please!

Jobs & Markets

Avalanche of Jobs for Writers - Great source of editors and publications seeking both staff and freelance writers.

Writer's Digest - The definitive magazine for writers, and publishers of the annual Writer's Market.

Writer's Exchange Job Opportunities - links to more job sites.

Journalism Jobs - a listing of journalistic positions nationwide.

Telecommuting Jobs - a listing of telecommuting jobs for writers.

Writers Markets - a listing of professional markets for your writing, fiction or non-fiction, all genres.
