Light and surroundings have always held a fascination with me , it must of been my childhood spent on wild Southern winter beaches at Palliser , the cold bleakness the windswept landscapes and finding beauty within objects that had shape and form - interesting to note I was the child that always found treasures .....the perfect Nautilus shell that made it intact to the shore line from thunderous seas... a wonderful large fossil embedded in papa up a remote river bed that the river floods and land slips has unearthed , the child that dragged to the beach cottage a huge bleached white old whale rib bone...... These were the days when the shorelines of New Zealand were not populated , roads were of gravel and no electricity came to these remote regions today the distances are small - childhood memories distort distance and size. Today million dollar houses are common back then only rough weather worn cottages with funny names in a small Bay called Te Kopai and known by the Pakehas as Ning Nong. Duality in my childhood life came in form of a Khandallah grandmother who had to greet me a bohemian ragamuffin with her box of skinks carted by train to the city....there I discovered on her coffee table Vogue magazine and a new interest began..one of colour, cut, detail ,fibre and fashion......again the word "form" So began my passion for fabric and sewing and when I could no longer sit for hours creating fingers at work I bought a camera..... And yes you are wondering now.....what stories lay between my words. Let my images become those words...
