PENCIL HISTORY
Lead and graphite pencils are a comparatively new medium in the long history of graphic art,
for it was not until 1662 that the first graphite pencil was made. Within our teaching and experiences of using the
pencils students will not only learn how to draw but to learn an excerpt of art history within the art lesson.
Here are some videos presenting the wonderful wonders of drawing with such a simple medium, the pencil.

THE COLORED PENCIL
In terms of traditional art, there is a feeling of newness about colored pencils, even though the idea behind them is not new at all. The desire to fashion a convenient drawing tool combining a colored chalk or crayon with a wood shaft goes back at least to the Renaissance.Today's colored pencils are descendants of colored chalk. Once our students have mastered how to blend and add light and shadow to their portraits, they are ready for color. The class will review color theory and apply pencil to a color wheel to better understand the properties of color combinations and blends.

PERSPECTIVE
BASIC PRINCIPLES - All ordinary perspective drawing is based upon a simple conception; that, between the eye of the observer and the object to be drawn, there stands a transparent plane, a sort of window, called the "picture plane", on which the form of the object is projected. This picture plane may be a window in the literal sense, and, if you will make the following experiment, the real meaning of the phrase will be much clearer once our students have experienced the techniques.
