Carving Corner has been providing top quality hand carved pieces of plaque art work since our founding in 1975. It is our mission to provide you with the easiest way possible to view and/or purchase one or more of these exquisite pieces. We believe the best way to achieve this goal is to provide you with a staff more than willing to answer any questions you may have, and to help you through any ordering difficulties that you may encounter.

Dave carves in the style of the old wood carvers of the 1800's. One unusual fact that is very important and unique to this style of carving, is that there are absolutely no power tools used in the creation of these pieces, with the exception of the original "Mill" saw cuts to make the blanks that are used. Nothing but hand made tools, gouges, scrappers, finger drills, sand paper, and imagination, go into thier creation.

How a carving is created is very simple! You acquire an image in you mind or from a picture, then re-draw that same image either by free hand or using tracing paper. Also select the wood that you will want to use in the creation.

Most of the wood used is Red & White Mahogony, for it's deep rich red grain.  I also use a lot of other exotic woods, all are extreamly hard woods, such as, Walnut, Purpleheart, Paduka, Iron wood, Zebra wood, Cocabola, Jatoba, Teak, Oak, Cherry, and many more. The finish applied first, is Linseed oil for that deep grain finish. Click here to view all of our available woods.

Care for these carvings is minimal, and easy.  Instructions in care arrive with every carving purchased.
