The Road Menders was painted in November 1889 in Saint Remy. To some people The Road Menders is surprising. It is not a normal street.

The street is torn up. Men are at work paving. Giant Tree trunks and fiery leaves change the street. Heaps of sand and cut stone line the street.

Some people think that this street feels like it is about to be destroyed by fire. In the middle of the street the wild flaming trees are not noticed.

Buildings are unchanged and people continue walking. The workers continue like it is a run-of-the-mill day.
