[FOUNDATIONS OF ART|Prerequisite for upper level courses]

In this introductory course convering drawing, design, color and 3-dimensional forms, students are indroduced to a wide range of materials and techniques. Homework is required. Tests are given. Students are responsible for their pencils and sketch pads.

Students expand upon thier communicative skills in this introductory course. Working with a wide variety of subjectmatter, they learn to develop their sketches into paintings. Cultural influences upon art, past and present, are discussed through slides, film and museum visits. Tests are given. Homework is required. Students are responsible for their pencils and sketch pads.

[SCULPTURE|Prerequisite: Approval of instructor and at least a C in Foundation of Art]

This course is devoted to the exploration and development of 3-dimensional art forms, related terminology and art history. A variety of materials will be used, such as paper, plaster, plexiglass and stone. Subtractive and additive techniques will be studied. Tests are given. Homework is required. Students are responsible for their pencils and sktech pads.

[CERAMICS|Prerequisite: Approval of instructor and at least a C in Foundation of Art]

This course is designed to introduce students to the basic forming techniques: coil, slab, punch and molds. The student will gain familiarity with a variety of ceramic materials and processes. Emphasis will be on good construction, creativity and exploring surface design. Tests are given., Homework is required. Students are responsible for their pencils and sketch pads.

[ADVANCED DRAWING|Prerequisite: Approval of instructor and at least a C in Foundation of Art]

This course is for the advanced student who wants to continue their exploration of visual images, and refinement of observational skills. Emphasis will be on the human figure and it's place in space. Students will be expected to participate in class as models. Personal expression will be emphasized. Tests are given. Homework is required. Students are responsible for their own sketch pads and pencils.

[ADVANCED PAINTING|Prerequisite: Approval of instructor and at least a C in Painting]

Designed for the serious minded art major, this advanced course offers experiences in the variety of painting media. Students learn to incorporate their knowledge of art history and technical experience into personal expression. The portfolio requirement shall consist of the students best work presented in a professional manner. Tests are given. Homework is required. Students are responsible for their pencils and sketch pads.

[STUDIO ART AP|Prerequisite: Approval of the Art Dept. and counselor; final grade A or B in Grade Advanced Painting or Drawing]

Grades 12

This course, for the highly motivated and talented art student, requires a lot of independent work, commitment and study and is not for the casually interested. It concentrates on the development of a personal portfolio emphasizing quality, breadth and concentration of each individual student's work. This is a standard course established and evaluated by the Advanced Placement Program of the College Entrance Examination Board.
