Razorclaw X's Fanart Evolution
Look Ma! Razorclaw X has finally constructed a dedicated Fanart page! As this page grows with the addition of more artwork, perhaps we can view the evolution of his technique... the newer stuff is at the bottom. The Initial StageThis is where it all began. Mainly simple colorations and cut-and-paste works using simple paint programs. Doco in the Battle of the Bands, Low Res. Revenge is a dish best served cold. This is actually my second fanart. The basic idea of the picture is this: you have five successful singers, which comprises of about half the main cast, then you have five more regulars who AREN'T in on the fun. Needless to say, they're pretty pissed at their success. This was inspired from one particular scene in my fanfic; take a guess which one.
Hell hath no fury.... This is actually my first fanart, cobbled together with an image of Ukyo superimposed over a picture from a fire. Note how there's the flames in her eyes, and the jade dragon earring. I wanted to add flames to her fist, but I wanted it transparent, and I didn't know how to do it. This picture was inspired from a scene in my fanfic. Guess which one. Ready... Go!. Picture inspired from track 10 of the Ranma 1/2 1991 Song Calendar, 'Yoi, Don!' As my third fan art, I cut out various shots of the Ranma girls in kimonos, gave them microphones, and stuck them on an interesting backdrop. FYI, the backdrop comes from Blizzard Entertainment's Starcraft game. Hope you like this. Priestess Ukyo, Photoshop Enhanced. Ain't it a piece of work, no? It took a good deal of three hours to remove the extraneous patterns (especially in the pants!), and very little time to do the colorations, which I think turned out nicely for blind, arbitrary choices ^^. Anyway, this is a Shinto dress, I think; Rei from Sailor Moon wears this all the time. Ranma and Ukyo. This scene comes straight from the Secret Sauce story, perhaps one of the best of the Ranma stories. Well, in this depiction Ranma's being a friend to Ukyo, who is beating herself up over making terrible sauce (it's a long story; chef's pride, after all, and besides, Ranma messed-up the sauce in the first place!). The rising sun picture actually comes from one of the more powerful scenes in Beast Wars, where the bad guys (the Predacons) were just about to win.... The Wheel of Fire Logo, Photoshop Enhanced. The High-quality JPEG version; and I DO mean LARGE!!! Still, they came out great; check out the low res version if you must. The Wheel of Fire Logo (secondary). High-quality JPEG version. Check out the Low Res if you must. The Second PhaseCharacterized primarily from the introduction of Adobe Photoshop into my fan art arsenal, the work gets incredibly better than before. Yet, you can totally tell that I've been experimenting during this phase. Akane's Dream 1, Low Res. Akane's having nightmares, and this is only the beginning! Ranma the playboy's treating his wife pretty badly. Akane's Dream 2, Low Res. Akane's having nightmares! This time, she's a captured princess, held in the clutches of the eeeevilll trio. Kodachi in a Mess. A touch-up from a Ranma anime episode. Fair Warning: don't look if you're a major Kodachi fan. Kuno Reacts to Ukyo, Low Res. This one requires a bit of explaining. In the Rhythmic Gymnastics competition story, Kuno mentions how he's getting excited to see his 'pig-tailed girl' in a leotard. Later on, when Ukyo comes to school in a skirt Kuno ditches Akane and the 'pig-tailed girl' in preference to Ukyo. Put two and two together, and this is what you get! Ukyo's Battle Aura. Touched-up picture from the anime episode where Ukyo battles a crepe chef. Ukyo's Pokemon. Ash may have Pikachu, Misty may have Starmie, Jessie may have Ekans, but Ukyo has.... Akane's Pokemon. And Akane has.... Ranma's Pokemon. And Ranma has.... (created in response to all Pikachu lovers who think he's the only pokemon out there-- I mean, gimmie a break, the runty electro-mouse sucks). The Price of Success; Low Res. Inspired by my fanfic series. The floor was taken from a Doco cell floating around on the 'net, while the characters were sketched by my own hand and scanned (balk at how terrible they look). Rivalry is Born in Pain; Low Res. Inspired by my fanfic series. In direct relation to the previous piece, this one was cobbled together using pics of Ryoga, Mousse, and Kuno from the Hot Song Contest video, Ukyo from the Secret Sauce story, and Kodachi came from you know where, where I replaced the black rose she was holding. Lighting is shining on Ryoga, by the way, leaving the others somewhat darkened. Singing With Her Heart; Low Res. Inspired by my fanfic series. You may consider it either a trading card or a poster; take your pick. Thanks to Bradster for the pic; this has been something I wanted to do for a while. Kudos to those who know what the caption means (Hint: think Ranma CDs). "Saint Ukyo". Okay, I find it rather funny that there exist those who hold Ukyo a saint, and those who hold Ukyo as Satan: thus Saint Ukyo and Satanic Ukyo, the extremes of the okonomiyaki chef's personality (neither of which are true, however, but are funny nonetheless). Well, here's 'Saint Ukyo,' and blame me for a weird mind. Yes, I drew it, so sue me if it doesn't look right. Kuno and the Phoenix Sword, Low Res. Tatewaki Kuno wielding the legendary Phoenix Sword. Wheel of Fire: Enter the Shadows, Low Res. Poster of fanfic Enter the Shadows. The Ballad of Ranma and Akane They Didn't Want You To Hear!, Low Res. The Poster to go along with 'TBRATDWYTH' The Third PhaseAt around this point I figured out the good and bad things Photoshop can do for me, and with this in mind I've come up with some of my best work yet. Storm of the Love Triangle, Low Res. This is the first manga scan colorization I've done in a while. This one comes from Vol.19, and the title is the actual name of that part. This was done in a similar style to the sixth opening sequence (and may have originally been based upon that, or vice versa). Rain of Kodachi, Low Res. If you saw 'Saint Ukyo,' then you already have a good idea what this is. Kodachi dressed as one of the characters from Star Gladiators 2: Nightmare of Bilstein, as Rain, the scythe-wielding Ice Queen (well, not really, but she does use a few of ice attacks). Scanned, and modified so it can look right (for instance, the hands holding the scythe were positioned in an unnatural way, and had to be fixed). The skirt and bows were made using transparent color fills... about 60% transparency. It's also, in general, drawing the back side of a person. The standing position is the same as Rain's in the game. The only thing missing is Rain's crown... and I opted not to draw it because of complexity reasons. The Big Head Strikes Back!, Low Res. Just look at this new manga coloring. The Lady's Man, Low Res. His name is Tatewaki Kuno... he IS Anime! Ranma VS Shizuka!, Low Res. This piece is in sort of a movie poster format, which blatently introduces my original character, Shizuka Minazuki, a new enemy of Ranma's who isn't the slightest bit interested in him! In fact, she'd rather kill him.... Disclaimer: All copyrights belong to their respective owners.
