Siesta HouseSiesta Key, Florida(2000-) The clients (both personal friends) where intensely involved in the design process. Then came a tricky task of opening up exterior and interior walls to create a flowing loftlike living space without changing the footprint. I did an analysis of the sun light and breezes through the day an calculating the azimuth an the altitude on the computer model to find the right way to implant the footprint in the site. The main bearing wall at the center of the house gave away to a wood-and-steel ceiling beam and two structural columns that rise from the base to the roof. The lighting, alarm system and built-in electric shades are all controlled by a LiteTouch computer,Rooftop sensors tell it to heat the pool, lower the shades when sunlight reaches a certain level and raise them when it's very windy. In warm weather, the couple can unwind in the roof swimming pool with its tinkling waterfall -triggered by a computer- overlooking the Midnight Pass waterway. |
