SEP was designed to prepare students whose science and engineering backgrounds should be enhanced, thus improving their academic skills, performance, and the likelihood of professional success. A select faculty works with students to develop the confidence, academic skills, and analytical skills that provide a firm basis for their continuation in bachelor's degree programs in engineering and science. After successfully completing the SEP, these students will be eligible to enter their junior year in science and engineering majors offered at Boston University.

Each must also submit a final report and a prize is given for the best paper. This program is being continued as part of our MRSEC educational outreach. Funds have been requested to support fifteen high school science teachers, five per year for three years, from schools in the Delaware Valley. The teachers will undertake a summer research program for six weeks from June 25 through August 3, 2001 and each will be assigned to a senior investigator in five of our IRG and Seed programs within the PENN MRSEC.
