This is a 1994 reproduction of the 1959 Number 1 "Ponytail" Barbie. It was released by Mattel to commemorate Barbie's 35th anniversary. A blond and a brunette version were produced along with a gift set containing 2 additional outfits.
The original Number 1 Barbie was dressed in a similar black and white striped swimsuit. However, several characteristics of this reproduction are not identical. For example, the original Number 1 had tightly curled bangs. This reproduction doll has straight bangs. Although everything is not the same, this doll is definitely an affortable alternative to the original.
