O-Sensei John Wheaton is a certified Seventh (7th) degree Black Belt in the art of Miyama Ryu Ju-Jitsu, receiving his promotion from Professor Antonio Pereira of the Tremont Dojo in the Bronx, New York October 27, 1978.O-Sensei Wheaton was first introduced to the martial arts at the New York City Community College in 1959. Enjoying the art of Judo he sought other instructors to study under. He benefitted from the tutelage of instructors such as:
Master Mose Powell - Ju-Jitsu
Sensei Walter Bowe - Judo and Ju-Jitsu
Master Nagabiashi Ninth (9th) degee - JudoWith the rank of Third (3rd) kyu Brown belt in Judo, he was introduced to a serious form of systemized street fighting - Myama Ryu Ju-Jitsu. After fourteen (14) years of study under Professor Pereira, he was certified and licensed a Seasoned Warrior and Skilled Technician. Even while just a Okuiri (2nd degree Black belt) he was allowe dot open a Dojo of his own ( Bugei Dojo of Ju-Jitsu). He taught in the Bronx and in Mahattan for a total of eighteen (18) years publicly and sixteen (16) years privately for the Association of the Blind at the LightHouse located in Mahattan.
Through the years O-Sensei Wheaton has participated in many seminars and demonstrations all around the Big Apple and has been interviewed by newpapers, radio about his skills in martial arts and choreography for real action fight scenes for two (2) Off Broadway productions.
He states that his greatest accomplishments came in the training of his four (4) sons. The oldest son did obtain the rank of Okuiri (2nd degree Black belt) under Good Ole Dad. Sensei Wheatron III, is now the Head Master at the Bugei Dojo of Ju-Jitsu, Inc.
