Granite Lake was my favorite place to visit on family vacations. My family would go there in the early to mid 70s. It's located in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State. This is where Mt St. Helens blew up. I don't know the condition of the lake since the eruption.
Granite Lake was filled with Brook trout, California newts, leopard frogs, tree frogs, and toads. My main interests at that time were in the area of herpetology, and the newts especially fascinated me.
There was a small granite cave on one end of the lake that I'm sure is in the memories of anyone that's explored the area. Three steep slopes surround the lake. We would climb one slope, then look at a colossal drop-off on the other side. From here you could see Bumping Lake and all the surrounding mountains.
I would like to know what the condition of this area is today, and if anyone else has memories of this place. Visit my web-site at http://olsen39simages.com/granite-lake.html to view my photography of Granite Lake.
