Renzo's Rant

The Best And The Worst

If there's one thing people are always asking me, it's what the best actor and the worst comic strip in the world are. I know, it seems strange that they would consistently mention both those things together, as they seem to have little or no connection. But hey, I don't make the rules.

Anyway, the answer is quite simple. As any simpleton knows, the best actor in the world is Pete Postlethwaite, and the worst comic strip in the world is Family Circus. If you didn't know this already, shame on you. And if you still don't know it after you've read this article, well, you suck the bus.

Pete Postlethwaite. Chances are that you've probably never heard of this guy. Or if you have, you mistook his surname for some sort of Jewish holiday. But Pete is a great man, as you are about to see. It isn't easy becoming the best actor in the world, I can tell you.

Despite having a distinguished 25 acting year career, Pete has never been a leading man. He's really more the type of guy who has a bit part in everything, usually in the background. His more well-known films include The Usual Suspects, Dragonheart and Jurassic Park 2. However, if you look closely, he can be spotted in virtually every movie ever made. Check out these screenshots:

See what I'm talking about? He has the ability to melt into any background. In fact, back in England at the Royal Conservatory, he was known as "the human chameleon". Oh, and for the record, he killed Mussolini and invented the plow. How's that for amazing?

On the flip side, we have Family Circus. Whether it's the overt religious themes, predictably formulatic construction or simply the crappy artwork that annoys me, there's something about this comic that makes me want to go out and punch a kitten.

I've found that absolutely every strip can be classified into one of four categories:

If there's anything that Bil is "keane" on, it's ruining my day.
