So, how can a young, liberal, professional woman love Barbie? Doesn't she embody primitive ideas of a woman's place and physical beauty?
Please. It's a toy. Plus she's actually done some pretty great things. Barbie has been a teacher, a doctor, a dentist, the president, an astronaut, a chef, an olympic athlete, a dancer, a musician, a member of the armed forces, and yes, a fashion model and a beauty queen (little girls, and many big girls, like to play dress up). She's made friends around the world and has managed to hold the same boyfriend for 40 years. And of course she's thin and beautiful, nobody wants an ugly doll. Now, does she make little girls hate their bodies? Not likely, I think their peers and celebrities take care of that. Anyway...
