-What can possibly be said about "Miyazaki's" stunning masterpiece. This is arguably the most touching and entertaining "coming-of-age" tale in anime. The master animator succeeds in inventing a storyline which is both simple, complicated, charming and widely appealing. Most everyone can relate to "Kiki", the adolescent girl attempting to succeed while growing up. It's approach is both wholesome and perfect. -It is the duty of all young witches to train away from home for a year to become a full-fledged witch. While first finding a friendly and large city, Kiki has some trouble fitting in. She decides to stay and is friended by a baker named "Osono". Along with her trusty "talking" cat "Jiji", Kiki begins her own delivery business for Osono's bakery. Its also quite successful, considering her abilities as a witch. A young boy named "Tombo" befriends her and the two experience an array of misadventures. Along the way Kiki does endure struggles, like most of us growing up; but she soon discovers that her journey may not always require the abilities of her magical powers. -This is arguably one of Miyazaki's finest films, "Kiki's Delivery Service" is an entertaining and wondrous andventure full of fantastic characters and innovative animation. The production is some of the finest made for an animated feature, the animation is very high quality for the release. It is a story wonderfully told, one that could only exist in animation. Miyazaki once again creates some of the greatest characters ever, it shows considerably in all his productions; his sheer brilliance in animated film making. But at the time, Miyazaki had never produced such a large scale production story like "Kiki's Delivery Service" since "Nausicaa". The film contains a complete cast of characters whom all play a huge part in the story, rather than his other productions the movie focuses highly on all the characters. -It's truly a magical film for all ages, a technically superior and entertaining film which has the potential to become a classic. A timeless film which never shows it's age, this is what the ideal animated family film should be. "Kiki's Delivery Service" is both entertaining and profound in it's character and story content presention; one never overshadowed by it's production like many other family films. It is what makes it so unique, and so deserving of a position as #9. -Until recently, this classic animated film remained out of print. In 1998, it was re-mastered, re-dubbed and re-distributed by Buena Vista Home Entertainment. It became one of the top video best sellers, and "Entertainment Weekly" named it the best video release of 1998. It was based on the popular childrens' book in Japan by "Kadono Eiko".
